My service was absolutely horrible. The clerk at turn in tried charging me $400 for a reservation my company reserved for $120. when I showed her the reservation she refused to fix it and I went to the office and they didn't help. It took days of me calling to get the account properly charged. They still charge me an additional $22 on my personal card for a service that was included on my company original reservation. I have never felt more like I was dealing with a company trying everything possible to steal from its customers. if I could choose less than one star I would.

National Car rental at the Detroit, MI airport is excellent. All the car rental companies there bus you over to their facilities. National drivers are polite and give you the information you need without providing too much information. When you return your car, drivers like "Linda" actually wait for you so you do not have to run to catch the bus or miss your flight. It is greatly appreciated.

I have used National a lot this summer. Most of the experiences have been okay.

The selection there is awesome...I've been able to rent my preferential vehicle almost every time, and the one time I wasn't, I got a comparable car.

Most of the employees there are good. Very friendly and quick to help.

My biggest complaint has to do with the shuttle which connects the rental center to the airport. There have been times that I've had to wait at the curbside of the airport for around 20 minutes waiting for the bus to show up. And there is one shuttle driver who I actually witnessed yelling very rudely at customers to "hurry up and get on the bus or I'll just leave you here for the next driver"...and this was after we'd been waiting for her to show up for 15 minutes.

Honestly, if they could get the shuttle issues resolved, I'd probably give them a full five stars on service too.

A long day of travel landed me in Detroit early on the morning of Wednesday, September 7, 2016. I was pleased to fine a full-size vehicle still available in the Executive row at 1 am. However, my delight was short lived. I approached the checkout booths to find both open booths block by Nation employees leaving in their personal car and carrying on a lengthy conversation with the employees manning the booths. To my dismay, this went on for almost 10 minutes. Once they cleared, I pulled up and was told the small curlicue mark on the rear window meant it was time for the vehicle’s oil to be change. I was instructed to go back a pick another vehicle and get back in line. After inspecting the remaining cars to ensure there were no marks on them, I was left with a midsize car with not Bluetooth. I tempted to pass on my experience directly to National and was sent to Yelp.

We boarded the National bus at the Detroit Metro
airport after only a five minute wait. Arriving at the National lot we were greeting by a customer service representative who identified the cars we could select. The selection was large and the cars very clean. The check out process took less than a minute. The return process was very fast as well and all employees were customer focused. Good job National employees.

Service related to picking up my car was and always is excellent. The car choices were limited this time around, but staff found a vehicle for me that suited my needs.
Drop off was not the experience I'm used to. The lot was over crowded with vehicles which required me to park a large vehicle in a small space making removing my personal items challenging. I had to wait for a rep to come over to greet me check the vehicle in. Then the walk to the terminal bus was long and difficult due to maneuvering through all the vehicles on the lot (suitcases in tow) that were parked very close together.
In fairness, this was just a bad experience once in the many times I'm at National at DTW. It was definitely an unusual experience.

Great rental company, love the fact that I can pick out the car I feel the most comfortable with, if my needs change, I can always go back and exchange it for another car, no questions asked. They will do their best to accommodate the customer, they had to work over half an hour to fix my latest rental that was mixed up by accident, and all with a smile and apology.

I Rented a car for business reasons and the gas tank was not full, by the time I realized it I was almost out of gas!! When I returned the car I was told, "Oh well, you should have checked the gas tank before you drove out". Really, ins't that their job?

I have rented cars from National fro many, many years and have usually had very good experiences with them. However, the last time I rented a vehicle at Detroit Metro, I felt the service at the Emerald Aisle left a lot to be desired. As an Executive Elite member, the staff there has always been very helpful and cooperative. This last time the staff did very little to secure me the type of vehicle I was looking for and left my wife, grand daughter and I to wander around the lot looking for one. We eventually settled on a vehicle that was somewhat close to what we wanted.

National at DTW is the best! As a frequent traveler, I have the advantage of being a member of different incentive programs. Emerald Club Executive at National is quality through and through. I can sincerely say that the multi-cultural staffers are capable and adaptive to the needs of the customer. I wish other airports (like DFW, for instance) had more managers like the ones here, who go keep it classy while resolving customer concerns.

I found the staff very helpful, even at midnight; the car selection was exactly 2. Jeeps. I chose the smaller one, a Compass that really lacked guts but was just the right size to carry luggage for 3 for a week.

Decent cars but we forgot out very expensive radar detector in the car while rushing to get on the shuttle bus. I immediately called the locations front desk to ask them to grab it and ship it to me. They said they would grab it and get back with me. I called the next 4 days to see if they grabbed it out of the car, with no one really knowing what I was talking about. Let alone call me back half the time when they said they would. At the end of the day, someone at national ended up stealing it and not turning it in. I've reported the issue to national and now my credit card company to refund me the amount to replace the radar.
