My experience with Famous Appliance Repair is very disappointing. Before calling for a repair, I removed several components of my clothing’s dryer to see if I could determine the cause of the problem. Using my volt meter, I was able to determine that these components were in working order. I set up the appointment with the understanding there was a $70 charge to come out and diagnose the problem with my dryer. The repair diagnosed the problem as a defective Control Board for Whirlpool dryer. The cost of repair was to be $521.43 (Control board $320.00, one hour labor $178.51, tax $33.43) I had to pay half for him to order the part. The part had to be ordered and would take five days. After the five days a different repairman came to install the Control Board. After looking at the dryer, he told me the original repairman was in error and did not require the Control Board. I had three other components, which need to be replaced. Two of the components, he had on his truck. A third component, a thermal fuse, he would have to get from his shop. He said the three parts plus labor would be greater than the price of the Control Board, but that he would not charge any more than the original estimate. I had tested two of the three components before calling for service, and they both were in working order.

After replacing the third part the following day, replaced the thermal fuse, the service man gave me a forth part indicated he had replaced it also. Remember, I had checked two components prior to the service call, and both were working. After the second repairman removed the parts, they were defective.

Previously, I had looked up the various parts on a Whirlpool web site and compared the part’s prices. See below:

After challenging the repairman regarding cost of repair, the repairman reduced the total repair price by all most $200.00. Appliance repair is Not an appliance repair service which I would recommend. They are overpriced for parts and labor. I also questions their repair serviceman’s skills.

Complete ripoff. They came and diagnosed my noisy dryer correctly, so no complaint there. The dryer needed new rollers and a new pulley. My problem is he quoted me $434 for the work. I called a few other shops and all of them quoted $150-$200 for the work. I ended up buying the parts for about $50, and it took me about 1 hour to do the work following a you-tube video. I bet someone experienced could have done it in 30 minutes. So $434 for $50 worth of parts and a 30-minute service call?

My frig has been not cooling down. Drew from Famous Appliance was prompt, dignosed the problem and determine the solution. His service was really good. Very friendly. Helped me to understand the problem and why. I would recommend Famous!

We had a problem with our oven. We called famous appliance and they were out the same day and had the part on their truck. They had us back up and operational before dinner time. Thank you for your promptness, politeness and very exceptional expertise. I will recommend famous appliance to all my friends and family.

The repair man was rude and condescending. He was also aggressively intimidating and made multiple remarks that were snide, derogatory and mocking. I would not let this man in our house again. At a minimum, they will charge you $170 to come to the house and diagnose the problem. The $60 they quote up front isn't accurate.

This company charges double retail cost for parts and tells you it's their cost. They also obscure the part number so you can't look it up online. I called multiple appliance companies and they were all nearly half of what Famous bid. Don't use them. They will take advantage of you.

Stay away from this company! They are a ripoff and completely dishonest. The good reviews are posted by their employees and family members. Don't make the same mistake we made and take your business elsewhere or else you'll be incredibly disappointed as well!

RIP OFF ARTISTS! they quoted me $360 to install an ignitor on my oven. I thought that amount was excessive. I bought a $48 part and spent 1 hour and did it myself. Easiest $312 I've ever made.

Worst Service EVER! Beware of the mailer add with a $20 off coupon. They will NOT honor it. The tech came in and I told him what my oven was doing. With out even looking at it he told me it was the mother board and it would be $500 to fix. We didn't want to put that much into our oven so we decided to just pay the service call which was $60+tax. I gave him the $20 off coupon (so I would only have to pay $40). The coupon says $20 off service call and an expiration date. That's it. But no, they won't accept it unless you use them to repair, but they told me on the phone that they wave the whole $60 if you use them to repair your appliance. In no way could the technician or the receptionist tell me how I could get $20 off. My friend's husband knows a thing or two about fixing appliances (I didn't know this before) and he came over and actually pulled my oven out and looked at it. Played around with it and fixed it! Didn't even have to buy a part and it was definitely not $500+ to fix! So I paid $64.11 for a guy to come in my house for 5 minutes and pull a diagnostic out of his A$$.

WORST Service EVER ** BEWARE

The absolute WORST service EVER!!! I would not recommend these guys to my worst enemy. We have been waiting for 48 days (8/16-10/3) for our dishwasher to be repaired. What a joke. They diagnosed the repair wrong and charged us $387 for a part that we were told would be 3 - 5 days to fix...took over 3 weeks. Then when they put part in, it was not 5 minutes for the dishwasher to quit. Now another 5 days to get a 3rd tech out only to tell us that 1st guy diagnosed wrong and now asked for more money than the 1st part. The dishwasher only costs $549 at Lowes! So it's Sept 16 and tech tells us it is a common part that they stock and will get it to us and have us fixed in a couple days. It is now OCT 3rd and after a new excuse EVERY day we are told it won't be until MON 10/6 that someone can now come out...we'll see. These guys are the WORST. Absolutely NO service and NO customer service. Parts manager, office person who answers phones are getting mad at US for asking status. Good LucK

I was out of town when my wife called and announced our garbage disposal was out. I called and it was fixed the same day. I returned home a hero. Reasonable rates!

Swamp cooler service: These guys had to reschedule three times and when he finally showed up, he didn't have a ladder to get on the roof. What kind of guy shows up to repair a swamp cooler without a ladder? I'll tell you. The kind of guy who quadruples the price of common parts (available at Lowe's and Home Depot at 1/4 the price). These guys prey on the elderly and people who are not mechanically inclined. They quoted me $750 (w/ tax). After two phone calls I for two different people who can do it for $230 (including tax).

If you should have the unfortunate circumstance where you end up in hell at the end of your life... you'll probably see the people from this company as bloody festered boils in Satan's filthy crack. That's certainly where they belong. Do not get sucked into spending your hard earned money with these deceitful people.

Showed up to our place to fix a dryer and spent 4 hours trying to fix, in doing so promising to have it fixed by the end of the day. At the end of 4 hours fix it job he claims that he doesn't have all the parts to fix it, and that he will be back in a week with the new part. Well 4 weeks and 575 dollars later with a lot of excuses he finally comes back to fix it. Horrible customer service wouldn't recommend at all, If there was a way to put negative stars on here I would.

Came to my home to repair my refrigerator. The service guy spent 5 minutes diagnosing and 10 minutes repairing the problem. Charged exorbitant price Seriously over charged for a repair that after investigation showed the part was $54 and they charged $194 for it. The service guy made it seem like it was a huge repair and he had to do all this rewiring and it was super tricky. They also charged a $128 +20 for the service call. He was here for less than half an hour. It took less than 10 minutes to do "all the rewiring". I was feeling very taken and didn't know what to do. I have a big house and am a single woman. I don't know the first thing about a refrigerator. When I got back to work one of the guys asked me what was wrong. When I told him what it was and how much they charged he was beside himself. He pulled up the part and showed me the cost. They charged $140 more than the part actually costed. Then we called around to 4 other repair places and they said an honest charge for a Saturday part and service would be $250 at the most. Even the Internet blogs corroborated. These guys are crooks and way over charged for this repair. I felt that as a single woman in a big house they just took advantage of me and made this repair seem huge and scary and that it was a BIG deal. I contacted the owner and she told me too bad that they would not refund any of the repair that it was customary and that is what they have to charge to stay in business. I just wanted a fair charge and for them to refund $100 to bring the repair in line with an honest and customary repair cost for this repair.

Watch your checkbook and your sanity and STAY AWAY from them! They charged my credit card BEFORE completing the work, and they were EXTREMELY difficult to arrange a refund with. They also wanted to charge me for 25% of the labor which was never completed upon cancellation of the appointment. They told me the job was VERY difficult, so they were going to charge me more than the hourly labor rate of $88-128 (the job took 20 minutes to complete). WATCH OUT! Don't say you weren't warned!

I called Famous to repair a gas oven that wouldn't light. They were prompt and courteous but like other users have noted, they marked up the parts over 1000 percent! That's right , $20 in parts were nearly $300. The service call cost me over $400 to repair an oven. When I asked them to review the bill they said they had to make money too.

Very fast and friendly service. The repairman was very friendly and knowledgeable.

We needed our dryer vent cleaned. They came and replaced 2 parts not needed for which they charged $62.50 for ten dollar parts. Overall $400 charge for about $90 job. No return call from company despite many calls to them. Beware and avoid this company.

I had a problem with my dishwasher not cleaning very well and the repairman came out the morning that i called and he said my dishwasher had a clogged pump. He cleaned out the pump instead of changing it and saved me a lot of coin. I really appreciated his honesty and will use his service again in the future. Thanks a lot, Thomas Martin.

Refrigerator stopped working, Famous Applicance repair came same day. Quoted $754.00 for Part/Labor. Couldn't get parts for 2 days, so we had time to price the part in the frig. The part cost $167.00 on the internet-brand new-shipped next day air. This part was easy to install 3 plugs in back. But this didn't fix it, so we had to call another appliance repair man. Ordered another part for $98.00. The blower wasn't turning on. The part they told us to replace would have gone out again, had we left it going. We spent $490.00 by the time the frig was fixed correctly. Had they been resonable, and not been trying to markup price 60%, they might have had the job. We won't be coming back, how can a business like this survive?
