My 20 year old Royal vacuum wasn't working. The guy said it required a new motor, a new brush roller, and a new bag. costing well over the cost of a new one $360. I then took it to another repair service who said it works perfectly, save a noise from a worn bearing that couldn't be replaced, but it still worked just fine.

I went into Rich's two weeks ago with my Bernina for a repair and service quote. My Bernina is computerized and was having trouble selection options. It was also not sewing properly. I went in to ask for help and the guy didn't even turn on the sewing machine. He just glanced at it and said "it's 16 years old and computerized, the repair will cost over $500." Then he offered to buy the machine for "scrap parts" for a $100 store credit towards a machine in the shop. He recommended a Pfaff 1140 Hobbylock as a "trade up" for my Bernina because my Bernina was "scrap goods." He said my Bernina was worthless because it was so old and not worth repairing. Something struck me as fishy about his eagerness to get me to dump my Bernina for scrap parts and trade-up and I got a second opinion at Paramount Sew and Vac the same day. The repair woman at Paramount actually TURNED ON my Bernina and saw the foot was broken, not the machine. She gave me a quote of $150 and has since ordered the part from Bernina for the scroll and is working on giving it a tune up. She then told me that the Pfaff 1141 Hobbylock the Rich's guy was trying to sell me was not a great buy because Pfaff doesn't actually make the machine model and that my Bernina is worth WAY more than the Hobbylock and should I sell used after repairs I would get my money's worth. Long story short, the guy at Rich's Sew/Vac was trying to take my Bernina for nothing and essentially cheating me out of a good sewing machine that needed a little tune up and repair. These guys are sketchy and not well trained. I mean, who tells you a machine is worthless when they haven't even tried to TURN IT ON or actually check the machine out. I'll never go to Rich's again and I will tell everyone in my weaving and quilting guild/groups not to go either, not unless they want to part with their perfectly good machines for nothing! Go to Paramount or another store. The guys at Rich's don't know machines and are underhanded and have bad service.

Deceptive practices

Dishonest in their representation. Manager never attempted to resolve problem. Never returned calls by Corinne C - 01/02/2014I went to the Eugene Store. I was talked into upgrading a to a better Serger which I bought. I was moving in a few days to Portland and I didn't know if I was going to be moving out of state. The woman, Lindsay, who was new to the store said i should get a warranty. I asked her several times and had her ask her boss if my machine could be serviced anywhere in any state. She assured me that it could. Well i went to Montavilla in Portland and they said that it could only be serviced by Rich's and that they should have given me the Gold Guarantee, which by the way I paid for because the Gold Guarantee is $300 which is what I paid. When I tried to resolve this problem, Daniel who said he was the manager or owner totally blew me off. Montavilla said this happens often. Rich's is a very shady and dishonest business.I would not trust them at all. Also I called The Better Business Bureau to lodge a complaint and I am not the first complaint of the year.
