Opened in 1965, Dare Elementary School enrolls more than 400 students in kindergarten through grade five. It is accredited by the Virginia Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school s after-school programs include homework assistance, sports activities and snacks. Dare Elementary School offers the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program and gifted and talented education. Its academic curriculum includes programs in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. In addition, the school has a media center that offers an accelerated reader program to encourage students to read more books. Dare Elementary School is located in Yorktown, Va., and is a part of the York County School Division.
