At the Animal Emergency and Referral Center of York, we recognize the special bond between you and your pet.In early 1990, a group of York County veterinarians realized a need for an emergency clinic to serve local pet owners with immediate, quality emergency care when their regular veterinarians were not available. In 1991, the Animal Emergency Clinic of York opened its doors to patients.

We brought our cavalier king charles in early 4th of July morning barely able to use his hind legs. They diagnosed him swiftly and started treatment immediately as they said he had injured his back causing a swelling that was pinching nerves. We brought him home after 12 hours and followed the medication and restrictions as directed. Today he is nearly 100%. Runs and plays like nothing had happened. Thank you for your help in giving us back the dog we loved.

We had a wonderful experience at Animal Emergency & Referral Center of York. Our cat needed to be euthanized because she was 17 and in a lot of pain. You could tell she had given up and was ready to be at rest. We first went to Yorkshire Animal Hospital and they did not treat our cat with the compassion and love she deserved, so we began looking elsewhere. When Animal Emergency & Referral Center popped up on google, we decided to take her there. It was an amazing experience. They treated not only us, but our cat with compassion. They were very gentle with her, and made sure she was very comfortable when she went to rest. Dr. Weisberg did a quick examination so we knew we were doing the right thing, and then spoke to her and stroked her head until she was at rest. We feel as though they provided the care that our beloved Patches deserved. Even the front desk staff was very kind. You can really tell they care about your animal and will treat them like the family member they are.

Do NOT go here!! After botching a $4000 surgery to remove a rock from his intestines, my dog was basically drowning in his own fluids when I went back to see if they could fix what they messed up the first time. Either the sutures didn't hold the 2 ends of the intestines together or they didn't take out enough bad intestine the first time; either way my dog didn't eat anything for 3 days after his initial surgery and his belly was getting bigger and bigger from the toxic fluids leaking into his abdomen cavity. Would they even look at him without agreeing to another $4000 surgery?? No. Would they work out a payment plan with me?? No. (Already maxed out my credit cards, including the Care Credit, for the 1st surgery). Any other options? No. So my 1.5 year old dog is dead because these people care more about money than an animals life. Nothing like having 2 little kids crying on Christmas Eve wishing they could have their dog back to give him the presents they got him.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would! They've got me downright livid! If your pets ever need veterinary care, I suggest avoiding the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of York at all costs, unless you have absolutely no other options. They will overcharge the hell out of you for procedures that aren't even necessary, and if you can't afford to pay their extreme costs in full immediately, they'll guilt trip you into euthanizating your pet instead. I didn't fall for it, took my cat elsewhere, and found out that he didn't need to undergo surgery at all. I brought him home from this other vet with some medicine and special food, and was told he should be fine now. So far, he's back to acting like his usual sweet and active self. I'm so glad I told this place in York to give me back my 1-year-young cat so I can take him somewhere better when they tried pushing me to put him to sleep!

If you value your furkid's life, please don't take them to AERC of York, PA. I took sweet Alma there last Sunday 1/6/2013 for an obstruction. they did surgery and removed what they told me was a bone fragment. Upon my dissection of it, i found no bone, but a mass of grass, plastic and a sliver of a stick. Her intestines had been perforated and she needed a resection.

They sent her home on 1/8/2013 while she was barely eating and had not had a bowel movement yet. After she appeared to have difficulty trying to defecate and again showed no interest in eating, I had her back in on Wednesday 1/9/2013 but Xrays were inconclusive so they sent them out for analysis. I never got a call back that night. While in the office, they told me it would be another 5 -10 grande to open her back up to determine what was happening inside of her. After maxing out my Care Credit for her first surgery, I had no money left to do much more. they sent me home with her to monitor her through the night.

Around 4 AM on 1/10/2013, Alma vomited up everything I'd fed her the previous morning plus a large mass of hair, grass and plastic. The E-vet had never checked her stomach while she was in surgery on 1/6. She still had a blockage!!!!!!

Over 5 grande total spent just at the E-vet for her care and she passed on 1/11/2013 while in surgery at her regular vet's practice when I refused to take her back to AERC after discovering they had not checked her stomach while she was in surgery on 1/6/2013.

Please don't take your animals there if you value their lives. Find a vet who will be open or keep emergency hours. R.I.P. sweet Alma, you are loved and missed so much.

The day before Memorial Day, I...

The day before Memorial Day, I had to take my baby Timber (14 yr old yellow lab) into the vet. He had a collasped wind pipe, and couldn't breathe. We were waited on right away, and about every 10-15 min the vet came in to give me an update on Timber. The staff and vets are were very professional, kind, caring, and just over all great!. They left me know that he would have to spend the night but I could stay as long as I wanted, and if I decided to go home, that I could call as often as I wanted to get an update. Even my own vet (which is great) wouldn't have offered all of that. They took great care of my baby. Everyone that works there always treated me and Timber like we were family. Unfortunately god wanted my Timber with him. The staff did everything they could possibly do and I take comfort in knowing that, and knowing how much they care. I would recommend Queen St Vet to anyone.
