I haven't had the need to put a loved one in an assisted living facility as of yet, but when the time comes, I know who I will be calling. I have lived in Windsor for nearly twenty years and have shared the same neighborhood with the Willows. My family often stops in for a quick visit and to drop off some sweet treats to the Willows. The caregivers always seem so cheery and thankful. It's quite obvious the residents are their number one priority. It's often to see someone sitting in the enclosed front porch basking in the sun and watching people pass by. Or relax in the cozy living room while petting the Willows' cat, Ethel. Every year for the Harvest Festival Parade, it is normal to see the owner, his wife and whatever residents that wanted to attend sitting and enjoying the parade. It is quite a blessing to have such a great facility so close to home with the great care and quality they provide.

a report on neglect with Weld ...

a report on neglect with Weld County Adult Protective Services on July 9, 2012. Five of the seven residents receive one shower a week, one individual is showered twice a week, and one resident is able to take her own showers. Three of these one-shower-a-week residents wear attends and one, whom a neglect report was filed on, deficates. This individual is a male, allowing only the owner, Rick, to clean him and apply cream on the rash/sore he has developed. There are times when Rick misses this individual's shower and will shower him at a later date. Open sores being exposed to fecal matter and not being cleaned on a daily basis can lead to serious health problems, including sepsis. Kitchen chairs are on rollers making it dangerous for residents to stand up from their chairs as they roll and are unstable. I witnessed one resident personally ask Rick to get chairs that did not roll and he blew her off and never addressed this serious issue. If an elderly resident were to fall and break a hip, her chances of recovery are low. Lack of resident stimulation: there are no outings, no facility car to take residents outside the facility. Family is responsible for all outings and a majority of the time residents sit in the living room watching tv, nodding off, with no personal/cognitive stimulation at all. There is one staff for a 24 hour shift, and there is so much cleaning and other chores to be done that there is not time for staff to interact with residents. The food is horrible. Most is prepared food out of a box, including the meat. Prepared food is high in sodium and empty calories. Most of the shifts I worked there was no fruit or fresh veggies, only canned. When I first was hired I was so excited about this job and told myself I wanted my parents to go to a small, personal facility like The Willows. I would never want any parent to end up in a place like this. Elderly individuals would be better off in a large retirement home because there they have outings, scheduled activities, the option to socialize with many individuals, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a variety of staff including several managing staff, so if a resident has a complaint about, let's say a chair on rollers, their complaint, if blown off, can complain to other managers, including a director. I highly recommend against the placement of a loved one at The Willows at Windsor.
