Many children know about McGruff the Crime Dog. In 1980, he was launched to teach children about fighting crime. The dog, who was often seen in his long, rumpled trench coat, was often heard saying, "Take A Bite Out Of Crime." Over time, he gained fame from television commercials, appearances in comic books, and even in-person appearances. His goal was to teach children about safety and what people could do to make a difference in the crime and overall security of their neighborhoods.
