Unfortunately, I had the misfortune of staying at this facility about a year and a half ago. For four weeks, I was trapped in dirty conditions, strict rules, and no treatments, besides a doctor seeing you once a week for 5 or 6 minutes. Patients had to advance levels over two or three weeks to even get privileges to leave the ward to experience any of the activities around the campus. I woke up one morning with ants in my bed, biting me. I had not broken the rules and had no food or drinks near my bed. After the sheets were changed with new linens put on, they showed up again: not on the bed but in the bed, under the covers. The orderlies would be very disruptive during the night, and the dirty, hard linoleum floors throughout the ward just echoed their cutting up, listening to music loudly, and watching movies all in the main room in which all the dorm rooms branched from, all night. After sleepless night after night we were awakened at 5:30am for "stats", and forced to stay up, locked out of our rooms.



With the acceptation of one or two nurses that were nice and comforting, the other staff members were short tempered, rude, crude, and dressed inappropriately, with no uniforms, leaving some instances where the patient wasn't easily discernable from the staff. I could go on, but I think those points are enough to dissuade anyone from admitting themselves here or family members placing their loved ones here. The State of Texas should immediately and personally review the conditions of this mental facility immediately. RW
