Dr. Don Malizia grew up in Lebanon County, and is a graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from La Salle University in 1976. He stayed in the Big Five and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Temple University Dental School in 1980. He practiced general dentistry in Lancaster County. His search for knowledge in the field of Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders began in 1985, with the pursuit of countless hours of continuing education. But it wasn’t until 2002 when he first heard Dr. Barry Glassman that he found the basis for a scientific approach toward diagnosing and treating chronic pain above the shoulders and the sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea that are often part of the condition with which our patients present. He and Dr. Glassman worked together for over 10 years in the Allentown Pain Center. They worked together to establish the scientific basis for what they call The Allentown Model. The Model is our scientifically based rationale for diagnosis and treatment. In the process Dr. Mazalia has amassed a digital library of over 26,000 scientific papers and textbooks on all aspects of chronic pain and sleep medicine, and other associated disciplines. In 2015 Dr. Polit asked Dr. Mazilia to come to Wilkes-Barre to start a new center for diagnosis and treatment of chronic orofacial pain, headache, and sleep disorders.
