The magic began in 1947 on three acres, ten miles north of Ocala, Florida. Not all the roads were paved and the only other building nearby was a small church located just across the street. The surrounding agricultural community was growing and a need for building materials, farm supplies & livestock feeds emerged. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Griggs opened Sparr Building & Farm Supply with a vision to provide a quality product and willingness to treat each customer like family. The original store had gas pumps and groceries along with general hardware and lumber merchandise. Long-time customers still talk about materials being unloaded by hand from railcars and carried to the store and lumberyard. In 1981, the Howard family purchased the business from their aunt and uncle, the Griggs. As the community grew from dominantly agricultural to semi-rural residential area, the customer base steadily increased. However, the family-oriented environment continued to be an important component to operating the store. Customers found it uplifting to walk in the store and be welcomed by their name from a sales clerk. Continued success allowed Sparr Building and Farm Supply to expand and build a larger store in 1990. It is located directly across from the original building. Over the years, Sparr Building & Farm Supply has maintained a positive reputation throughout the area. Locally, when residents say, "I'm going down to Sparr," most are referring to the store instead of the town it resides in. Today brothers Sam & Paul Howard actively own and operate the business. By dedicating themselves to the business, working hard to keep the family values and traditions a part of the everyday operations has led to tremendous growth. As of 1998, Sparr Building & Farm Supply had grown from a small retail store to the largest farm fence dealer in the state of Florida. The Sparr location covered 15 acres which includes a showroom, state of the art lumber yard, warehouse, and hay storage. A new statewide delivery service became available and also included drop shipments of merchandise throughout the United States and South America. Expansions began again in 1999 with the addition of a second store in Williston, Florida. The location was perfect and the values upheld by Sparr's ownership and management fit right in with those in the community. The residents accepted and welcomed the new store because of the reputation Sparr Building & Farm Supply had built throughout the state. In 2003, Sparr Building & Farm Supply acquired a third store in Wildwood, Florida and has currently moved to a 30,000 sq. ft. facility at 6000 Signature Dr., at the corner of Signature Dr. and Highway 44, in Wildwood. With three locations in North Central Florida, Sparr is better able to serve the state by continuing the tradition of providing quality products with genuine service. The expansions of the Sparr and Williston locations were completed in 2004, giving both locations more warehouse space and a state of the art lumberyard. The Sparr location is currently covering 30 acres. Sparr Building & Farm Supply carries a wide array of products. Fencing materials include: CCA, MCQ, and Creosote post, fence boards, non-climb wire, field fence, corral panels and gates. We also carry all types of building materials including lumber and plywood. Sparr also stocks Purina, Nutrena, & Manna Pro feeds for horses, cattle, poultry and also for exotic animals like koi, tortoise, and llamas. Other items include livestock waters and feeders, horse stalls, buckets and animal health supplies. Speak to one our knowledgable Farm Consultants at each location for a recommended feeding program for your animals. Inside the stores you will find electric fence supplies, tools, a lawn and garden section, plumbing and electrical, automotive, paint and much more. There are statewide delivery services available and Sparr can ship anywhere in the ...

Hours of Operation....

Drove from 45 minutes away, from work to this place to pick up one item... I got caught in construction and arrived a couple minutes past closing (my fault, I know).. I work the hours they are open, banker hours, as they are only open until 6pm, and only work six hours on Sunday (why even open?).. Been in there multiple times and I'm passed by without acknowledgement. .. I can deal with that.. but as you are still ringing people up and to turn customers away at 6 in the evening, as a neighborhood friendly store, I was floored... I work for a big box corporate fortune 50..... and if a customer came to our door at 10:04 (because we serve our community after normal workday hours) and needed one piece to help them stop a leak or something of that nature, and there were still customers shopping, I wouldn't have the heart to turn away my fellow neighbor. After all, that is why you are in the community, no?...(helping people love where they live is the new lingo!) This business has moved once to expand, but with the decrease in farm land taken up by the villages (purchasing 400-3600 acres at a time), don't see this place lasting with the reviews, service, type of inventory, and hours... Not one to leave a bad review, but after trying to get here all week to buy one thing, just frustrated at this point, after being told "we're closed, 6pm," and then he turns his back to me... 7-6pm is a 10 hour work day > cut your hours from 9-6pm for a single 8hr shift and cut half your staff if you want to save money.. Remember people, there is Amazon, Ebay, Home Depot, Lowes, and TSC.... which serve their communities until 9 or 10 pm, and price match. Disappointed. No need to reply with a sob we're sorry, just fix your problems listed in these reviews. Local buddies are friends and nice with each other.. think about it... it's in the black and white.

NOT Recommended

Horrible service, unfriendly staff, high prices. That about sums this place up. OH, and do NOT try and use a coupon -- they will hassle with you as much as they can to make sure you do NOT get to use it.

Jennifer from Sparr in Wildwood Fl.

I have shopped at this store on several ocassions and have never had any concerns with the staff or products very well stocked store. A few weeks ago I began thinking about buying some cross ties. I spoke to one of the ladies at the register she gave me the price buy was not sure of what the delivery charge would and since I was not buying them at that time I asked her to have some one call with that information. Early the next day I recieved that call so I then began to plan when I would need them. When I called back to the store I spoke to Jennifer we set up a date to have the cross ties delivered. Jennifer Called me 4 days before they were suppose to get there and said we have a opening today (03/07/2014) would you like them early than we planned I said yes I than met with Jennifer at the store very easy to work with,a wonderful smile and very good at Customer Satifaction she was working with J B I believe. there both very good at there job. Jennifer Thank you for your outstanding service I am very glad to have met you and hope we will do business in the future. Your my Employee of the month

Great Place To Shop For Home Or Pet Food

I like the variety of natural pet food at Sparr. I have also bought fertilizer for my plants. I like the selection of household and gardening items. I go here at least once a week. They offer a military discount.

I love this store

The people who wrote the bad reviews must have them confused with another store. I have had nothing but great service from their staff. I have been going here for years and never had any problems. I am in there almost everyday and would go here before anywhere else.

This place is a joke!

If I could give this place negative stars I would!! What a joke we special ordered material that took 3 weeks to arrive and when it gets here it's the completely wrong product !! Not to mention it took 3 weeks to arrive. The correct product was ordered and when it arrived not only was it damaged but the employees and manager were very rude and basically told us sorry about your luck. I have spent thousands of dollars at this store and If I could is take every penny back what a terrible place. So much for customers these people are so stuck on themselves they basically attacked my husband and I! Never shop here!

HORRIBLE PLACE TO GO

I hate to tell "Business" this, but the experience from the "Unhappy Customer" post IS representative of your staff.Every time I go into this store the experience is worse than the one before.Rude staff, un-apologetic, makes me wait over 7 minutes to see if the warehouse has the feed I need (Not just on one occasion but EVERY TIME I go there). When this happens, the staff does not apologize for the wait but just ignores the customer and simply DOES NOT CARE. We simply walked out the last time this happened, and they didn't even flinch at the fact they just lost a valuable customer.I HATE going to this place. Emphasis on the word HATE. I've never encountered more rude, thoughtless, arrogant staff than at this -- dare I say -- establishment. I think the problem is this place has no competition in the area.I highly recommend going to Ocala if you live in the Wildwood area because even though it is a farther drive, it will be WELL worth it when you compare the experience you'll have at Sparr.

You Got to be Kidding Me

Apparently the other two reviews were written by the staff at Sparr because the store in Wildwood has the most inconsiderate and arrogant female staff I have ever encountered, even if you can get them to waddle over to help you the first thing they do is sigh, I guess asking for help or advice is well beyond there educational background. Shop anywhere else you can, you will get better service, better price and excellent advice and knowledge from anyone else.
