CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that uses gymnastics, olympic lifting, running, rowing, power lifting, plyometrics and more.  Each day a warm up and workout will be programmed an a highly specialized coach will follow you through each workout to ensure proper form and adequate weights.  You do not need to be an elite athlete or workout prior to starting CrossFit.  All workouts are fully scalable to ensure all levels and abilities achieve their fitness goals.  More than anything CrossFit promotes camaraderies and the class setting is fun, encouraging and extremely effective.
