Unprofessional - substandard work

Showed up late and the finished work looked like hell. Look elsewhere for better quality and professionalism.

I called Althouse Roofing and Siding for an estimate. An individual named Art took my call and said he would get back to me. He called me later that afternoon and scheduled a meeting. He was one hour late to that meeting and failed to call me to let me know he would be late, even though he was aware that I was traveling to the location.

I had a small loading dock roof to repair that was 14x20x20. We had already removed all of the old roofing. I needed 13 joists added to reinforce the already resisting joists, 1/2" plywood to serve as an underlayment, since the existing joists were on 12" centers and rolled asphalt roofing to serve as the overlayment.

Art agreed with my assessment as to what needed to be done. He gave me an estimate of $3600 cash or $4500 by check. Hmmmm!

I asked Art how long he thought the job would take. His response was "It depends on how many roofers". I said "you're the expert, how many roofers do you recommend/?'

His response was "Me and one other roofer". I asked "How long do you think it will take?". Art's response was "We won't get it done in a day". I asked "So it will take you two days?". He didn't respond. Remember, this is four squares with the tear off already done. I had already priced the materials if I did the job myself at $525 retail. Any professional roofers would get this done in a day, even if it was a long day.

I asked Art, "So you're telling me that it will cost $900 a square cash?" His response was "Well, that is getting up there isn't it?". I told Art that , by offering an outrageous estimate, he had lost a customer. I offered my hand and thanked him for coming. This clueless little twerp grinned at me, didn't bother to shake my hand and headed for his car.

I have never scoured a business on any online forum. However, Art's performance was so outrageous that I felt compelled to comment. What if some elderly residents of Reading and Berks County fall prey to this glib little shyster? Call any roofer and ask them if they are charging $900 a square for first floor flat roofs with the tear off already done.

I would be remiss if I did alert the public to the fishing scam that Art, of Althouse Roofing and Siding, is running.
