Provided by YP.comSo, I was in an assignment for a few months in DC and obtained a Metro SmartCard.
The reason, it is cheaper, convenient and you can reload it. It costs $5.00.
Well, my card would not function, every time I would swipe, the attendant had to let me thru the gate. Finally, one attendant gave me an envelope and told me it was probably defective and WMATA would replace it for free. So, I completed the whole thing, mailed it and guess what?
WMATA stated there was nothing wrong with the card. When I called, they changed the story and said there was a damage, but was not caused by them. Well, I know DC is hurting for money, but at least have some decency! I got another card, deficient again!
Don´t bother and don´t try to get a refund. Just know it may be a way to get your money. I can afford the third $5 card. DC may not, but what way of collecting fees.
WMATA fired a worker recently for stealing medical equipment, selling lost or left phones and items in Metros, but they may want to investigate their own SmartCard refund policies. They got two from me. Oh well!
