Dr. Nikolai Khromouchkine is a specialist in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, with a clinical focus on spasticity management. He specializes in treating all patients with physical or quality of life needs, either as a result of short term injury or because of the way a chronic medical condition, such as a stroke or a spinal cord injury, has affected them. After completing one of the few accelerated Bachelor's/MD programs in the nation as well as his internship at the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine, Dr. Khromouchkine went on to complete residency training for his specialty at the Georgetown University Hospital & National Rehabilitation Hospital program. While there he continued to have a genuine passion for the academic aspect of medicine. As a resident he directed a research study at the National Institutes of Health, where he studied the associations between diagnostic transcranial magnetic stimulation values in 5 rare diseases. This study was published in the AANEM annual meeting abstract guide and received a resident and fellow member award as a result. He has also presented multiple posters at the AAP and AAPMR (national academies for his specialty) as well as locally at his medical school. He performed consistently well on his licensing and specialty examinations during his training, scoring in the top 10-15% throughout his residency. His clinical interests include treating patients whose quality of life is impacted by their long term neurological disease, including treating muscle tightness, pain, mobility and self-care issues which often occur as well as a comprehensive knowledge of the musculoskeletal pains associated with these conditions. He performs multiple needle-based procedures such as Botox injections for muscle tightness and pain associated with neurological disease, as well as joint and soft tissue injections for musculoskeletal pain. Although few things make Dr. Khromouchkine happier than seeing his patients reach their goals, he also enjoys learning about new cultures, is an avid pickup soccer player and loves exploring the city with his wife.
