Established in 1816, the Massachusetts-based Waltham Fire Department works to prevent, control and limit damages by fire. The department focuses on protecting the life and property of citizens and businesses. It also provides emergency medical, hazardous materials response, vehicle extrication, technical rescue, fire education and inspection services. The Waltham Fire Department organizes various programs on fire prevention and life safety. It additionally administers various educational programs on fire-related issues for children. The department maintains a fleet of engines, tankers and rescue vans. Its training division arranges department-sponsored education for employees to maintain necessary skills for performing their assigned tasks. The Waltham Fire Department has a staff of more than 170 employees.
