The facility is clean and smells great. Definitely doesn't smell like your typical nursing home. Very clean and tidy. The building is a bit older but the décor has been updated and is modern. The staff are very friendly and smiley when you walk in. The therapists are amazing too! They will work your bottom off. My family and I had a great experience here and this would be my first choice should my family member need another nursing home stay. I feel like I should also mention you can get a meal tray to eat with your family member for 5 bucks and you get A LOT of food. I couldn't finish everything and it was really good!

Kaiser sent our sister (early 50s) here for high-oxygen respiratory rehab after a long ICU/hospital stay. She was able to walk short distances on admission and expected to improve to independence at Ft. Van - a sad joke. The facility is drastically understaffed, staff mostly uncaring and uninformed and some untrained in oxygen, atmosphere chaotic and warehouse-like, slow responses to call button (up to an hour). Our sister received no PT at all for 5 days and was forbidden to get out of bed herself, a huge setback. PT ended up being too little too late even though 2 of her therapists were great. An oxygen emergency was bungled by staff clearly not trained in basic oxygen delivery or triage.



Clothes lost in the laundry, low-quality food, etc. The overall negligence in big and small ways led to her precipitous decline and re-admit to ER and ICU.



Non-senior-aged oxygen-dependent people seem to be the last to get help here and that's not OK. Kaiser should offer a better alternative.

Overall -- I was dissatisfied. You come to a SKILLED NURSING CENTER, in a weakened state - some both mentally and physically, Thankfully I still had my wits about me. I was happy -- but very frustrated.

I was there for a month for a badly broken ankle. I was treated respectfully most of the time. The staff and caretakers are overworked and spread thin. You will not get a bedpan or a trip to the bathroom -- until it is an emergency. You will wait 20 minutes or more. Many people could not hold it.

I was told that my bed would be changed while I was showered -makes sense? Well. my bed was not changed at all while I was there. I was there for 28 days.

They are short-handed. People that required more care than I were getting there needs met.

Now shall we talk about food! am out of space -- The food is overcooked and an unskilled person ruins perfectly good ingredients to make slop.

They cannot even do Cherrios right.Oh, you get Cherrios, no milk or sugar!

Daytime care needs help!

Pushing the nurse button for bathroom doesn't work. Just go in your bed. My mom cannot hold her need for toilet for 20 minutes, until someone gets up to see what's up.

Last year my dad was put there, I walked in his room right after the helper dropped off his lunch. Next to his tray of food was 2 containers of urine. So nothing has changed. When people are recovering from strokes, they need help.

I have just finished up doing my N.A.C. clinical s here. I will miss the staff as well as the residents. I was amazed to see how much the staff care about the residents. The food looked and smelled amazing. There was a strong effort to make sure all residents had all the fluids they could have or wished to have. The N.A.C. I was with made it a point to ask when ever she was in the room what she could do for the resident to be more comfortable. At NO time was I ever encountered with an unpleasant odor.The staff at Fort Vancouver has changed my way of thinking about convalescent centers or long term care facilities. Thank you for a great experience.

If you are being discharged from the hospital and are not ready to go home yet, don't worry about it. At Fort you will receive great care. The staff are sharp and very personable - they really do care about you. While I was there I found out that it is rated 5 stars by Medicare. That's the best possible.
