Nasty tanks, dead fish, cyano covering the salt water aquariums. I visited on 3/11/09 and have never been in a worse store. The only possible explanation for the positive ratings on this site is that the owners or their friends are posting them there. The conditions were horrible, the place reeked, and the salt water tanks were so nasty you couldn't see the fish in them.

I have visited Spiller Pets several times and each visit, I am more disappointed with their level of customer service. I wonder how they have remained in business for so long! This business WILL NOT have to worry about my prescence in their store ever again!! I know I am not the animal/pet guru of the southeast, but I do not appreciate being treated like a simpleton when I visit this store.

I had a question about some fish my family had purchased a week ago. Two of them are very aggressive and we like having non-aggressive fish that are colorful and docile. I went in to explain my plight and was met with curt, short remarks that didn't even answer the questions being asked. I then made the statement that maybe one of the employees made a mistake when recommending fish for our tank. I was answered with a very harsh, "This is a family owned business and I know we would not sell these [aggresssive] Zebra barbed tetras with [non-aggressive fish like] Neons."

Regaradless of what kind of business it is, family owned or not, that doesn't mean someone might not have been paying attention or listening to the requests of the customers and made a mistake. When a business fails to even realize they may be wrong and will not make amends, there is no room for improvement. I would not recommend this store to anyone and I will never darken their doors again.

I have been here twice. The first time I went, it was awful. The animals were literally piled on top of each other, sometimes dead or with broken limbs/wings. This place is WAY too over-populated. I went back recently (about a year after the first visit) thinking I would get a pet as a charity case or something; but who knows in what type of condition these pets are. I was scared to buy anything. The tanks are the nastiest thing I have ever seen...most didn't look like they'd been cleaned in AGES.



This business needs to learn how to control the population of their pets. They need to SERIOUSLY clean their tanks and keep them in better condition. They also need to organize their stock so it's more like a store and less like a messy warehouse.
