I grew up in Alabama and attended undergraduate, graduate and medical school at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Prior to medical school, I did research and published in virology, studied business administration and public health, and taught aerobics. Early in my medical training I chose neurology based on my fascination with the brain and nervous system. Having seen the effects of neurologic disorders in my family and friends, I was interested in helping people with these conditions. I have now lived in the Atlanta area over eight years and consider it home. I love getting to know my patients and helping them understand and control their neurologic conditions so that they may have a better quality of life. I manage and treat patients with many neurological disorders, and my special area of interest is epilepsy. I find it extremely satisfying that with proper diagnosis and treatment it is possible to give someone who has been experiencing a poor quality of life - for example, due to undiagnosed or untreated seizures, strokes, or headaches - the opportunity to work, drive, function in society and get the most out of life. I am interested in studying how neurologic conditions such as epilepsy affect learning, memory, and cognitive function. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family, exercising, enjoying nature and the outdoors, listening to music, reading, writing stories, poems, song lyrics, and watching movies.
