The First Apartments is a non-profit residence for adults, 62 and older. We also have a limited number of units for those under 62 that are 100% disabled. The building was constructed in 1968 in cooperation with the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Our facility consists of 118 units in a seven story building. The majority of the units are studio apartments. There are 24 one bedroom units, and 7 expanded units available for rent as well. Many Resources & A Choice of Activities Living in the First Apartments give you access to Red Carpet library service, Health Department Clinics, and Healthwise 55 on site. Not to be overlooked are the variety of social activities, parties, and card groups, to name a few. Residents have access to computers and a reader for the visually impaired. We take pride in providing these living arrangements. The First Apartments regularly compares its costs with other housing in Topeka to ensure it is competitive. We charge no entry fees. Our reasonable monthly rent includes utilities and maintenance costs. Applicants are encouraged to inquire about the availability of rent subsidy in their annual income meets HUD requirements.
