You Can't Fix Stupid...

I understand promoting from within, but if you're going to do that, I believe that it's incumbent that you, (1) train the person you're promoting to know procedures, and (2) make sure they are able to communicate in English BEFORE you give them the keys to the kingdom.

My nightmare began with an innocent trip to the Tomball 249 store to buy 1/2 price plant materials (which, by the way, were NOT all half price as we are led to believe by the TV ad). We are a tax-exempt organization, and ringing up our three items took almost an hour to acomplish. The young man ringing us up was as helpful as he could be, but it was his first day, and he didn't know the proper procedure for ringing tax-exempt sales. I understood that, and was as patient as could be. The trouble started when MOD (Manager On Duty) Juan C. also had no clue as to the proper procedure. By the time he found the right HGC Procedures Manual (and went through step by agonizing step), it was 45 minutes spent to save $8.00. But then it gets worse - Before we were released, we learned that Area Supervisor Raul was in the house, and he didn't know what to do, either. He insisted that they had to keep our receipt for their paperwork, even though they already had two copies in the register drawer... And he was defensive and rude in his demeaner and response.

Again, I understand promoting from within. It can be the cheapest way to build an organization. - But at the very least, you ought to promote only those who speak our language and possess a modicum of logic, and then invest time and resources in their proper training.

Because, it's like comedian Ron Whie says, "You can't fix stupid!"
