Topic: guess you can't please everyone, but 99 out of a 100 isn't too bad! Al Blackman Jewelers does a great job of educating their customers. When you invest in a luxury item such as fine jewelry, it's like investing in a car. You get your oil changed when recommended, you wash it regularly and attend to or even replace tires as needed with day to day wear and tear. Jewelry is the same. You wear it every day. Al likes to see you bring it in every few months to check the prongs and make sure the stones are tight. He cleans your jewelry so that it looks like it did the day that you bought it. He does this free of charge anytime and as often as you come in. Unfortunately, just like cars, you will get a nail in a tire and need a patch or even a new tire. With Jewelry, you may break a prong or even lose a stone and need it replaced. These things happen. It's not even a matter of who's at fault. What is important is that these issues get addressed and attended to. Al Blackman is very fair and knowledgable and knows how to make the best outcome of any situation. This is why he has remained in business for so many years. Rather than posting negative comments on public sites, try bringing the issue at hand to the table or should I say the jewelry counter where Al can make it right. Just sayin

My husband bought my engagement ring from here back in Sept. 2012. He had it custom made.

In the short 2.5 years I've had this ring it has had to be sent in TWICE for loose diamonds. I take very good care of my rings and take them off whenever I'm doing anything "active" there is no reason this should be happening.

I took the ring in last week Monday knowing it would be a while because of the 4th of July

Holiday. Much to my surprise they called me Thursday to tell me the ring was ready. I told him we were out of town and would come get it Monday. Come Monday I drove all the way out there(I don't live close) and they told me if wasn't ready and it was in the shop. What?!? You just told me it was ready four days ago!!!

We chose a private jeweler to avoid situations like these. We thought they would take care of us. We were wrong. They will never get my business or my family's business ever again.

Pros: Al and his wife are very...

Pros: Al and his wife are very friendly. I enjoy speaking with them. The shop is small, but always very clean and orderly. Al is willing to explain repair procedures in detail. He even fixed a sizing issue that The Irish store next-door had goofed on a Claddagh Ring. They def. know their Jewelery!

Cons: This might not be much of a con, but no matter how frequent (or infrequent) my visits are, they never seem to remember my name or my previous visits. Maybe their really busy at times? Also, while he will take your watches in for repair, they are actually sent out to someone he keeps anonymous.

I had a watch near and dear to me...I wanted to replace the battery on it since I was doing a couple others. Figured it could use a fresh one even though it was working fine!I paid for my watch to get a new battery, complements of Al Blackman... when I got it his wife showed me it was not only on time, but a little fast. GREAT! Well, a couple days later it was running slow. When I took it back in they almost didn't believe me... "You set the time properly, right?" Insisting the battery wasn't the issue... I had him take it back. This time Al "oiled" it. I was expecting this to be free since my watch only started running slow after he replaced my battery. Nope. But no big deal, so long as my watch runs on time! Again, Al's wife showed me that after it had been sitting behind the counter for days...it was still right on time! I took it home, by the next morning it was ten minutes behind. Third time I took it in, he sent it out to his anonymous watchmen...came back...blah blah blah. Runs "less slow" but still not properly enough use everyday. I gave up! Remember folks, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Moral of the story, great place for non-mechanical jewelery!
