I went into Birdsall Jewelry after hitting the gym and was welcomed by the back of the postman and the 2 women working inside chit chatting. It took a good minute and a half to two minutes of them talking to acknowledge my existence. I politely told them that I was there to see their "jewelry designer" about having a custom ring made. The first lady said "oh he's in the back wait a moment" and then about forty-five seconds after told the second lady to go get the guy. I waited an acceptable amount of time for him to come out and start off our conversation. I never did get his name. I showed him pictures of the ring I like and he asked how much it cost online. I explained to him that the online store sells on their website, amazon, and ebay and the same ring on each site has a different price attached to it. I told him that we would rather spend more money on a custom piece for the quality than spend so little and get what we paid for. He tried to talk me into buying the ring online because it was a great deal...right after I explained why we weren't comfortable with that idea. I asked several more questions and finally point blank asked "can you give me an estimate on what it would cost to have you make the ring?" to which I got the response "Well I'd probably just buy the band from them then sell you a diamond to go in it and if you said it is $850 I could get it for $500 then sell it to you for $600 and then the cost of the diamond depends on the size and style you want." Keep in mind I'd already told him 3 times the size and style diamond I wanted. I asked a second time "What would it cost for you to MAKE the band and add the diamond?" at which point he said "Well it would probably cost you $2000 just for the band because I'd have to make the ring and make a mold and then I could turn around and sell the same ring for $250-$300 after." Excuse me? I'm coming to your store for a custom ring and you flat out tell me you'd sell more after I pay for you to make my CUSTOM piece of jewelry?

Long story short, the people there were rude, not very open to my ideas on a piece of jewelry that should last a lifetime for me, and from the best I could tell not willing to do exactly what we would be paying for them to do.

My fiance' purchased a "white ...

My fiance' purchased a "white gold" ring to surprise me in Cozumel. The jeweler designed a beautiful setting for the stones. When we returned, I had to get it sized. The sizing was free, but I had to pay for them to re-rhodium the ring. We sucked it up, paid for it. They called me to say it was ready a week later. Went to pick it up, there were scratches on the band. Sent it back off. A week later, got it back. SAME PROBLEM. Scratches. On the band. SENT IT BACK AGAIN! 3 1/2 weeks of being engaged, I didn't have a ring to show for it. Finally when I got it back, it looked like it should. I've decided to get our wedding bands elsewhere. I asked the new jeweler if they could re-rhodium it, and they told me NO. They don't rhodium GOLD, they only rhodium WHITE GOLD (which REAL jewelers add nickel, copper, and zinc to their gold in order to make it "white"). I have to get the band sautered off and a white gold reapplied. Oh, it's only going to cost $200! I cringe at the thought of Birdsall, and their "fine/FAKE jewelry"
