It is absolutely despicable that the University that once prided itself on being the first Women's Seminary has sold out to the NCAA just so they could make more money in football. It seems to me that the board of Northeastern State University is saying football is more important than academics. Point taken. You know you do have more to offer than a football team. You are known as "the" Teacher's College. You also have a school of optometry. But alas those don't matter, what matters to you is football.

I know that I am not the only alumni that feels this way. Being of Cherokee, Choctaw, and Creek descent I was proud of my school. Now I know they don't care about their history and they are spitting in the face of the Cherokee tribe, specifically.

You are located in the Cherokee capitol, what since does it make to turn your back on the people who once made you great? Unfortunately you had the backing of Wilma Mankiller too. Betrayal does not a good chief make.

What is a RiverHawk?
