I have been hitting Poe's for many years when visiting my friends on Isle of Palms. Great local spot and consistent for a good night out with friends or solo. In regards to wait staff issues, this is a transient locale, e.g. Vacation spot, and you could cross paths with some interesting people. Never a problem for me and friends and always a spot visited when in from CA. Just don't order Coors light or they'll mess with you in a light hearted manner.

Poe's Tavern is a great place for a beer and sandwich. They have a huge selection of draft beers and a full bar. They offer 8 or 9 sandwich combos available with either a grilled chicken breast or ground beef (ground fresh in house). I've tried several and all were exceptionally good. Other entrees are available, but I usually stick to the sandwiches. They're very good. They have excellent hand cut fries and a tasty blue cheese cole slaw. Weather permitting, you can dine on the porch or outside bar. The inside dining area is all non-smoking, but you can smoke outside. This place seems to be a favorite with the locals and is very busy at lunch. We've dined at Poe's several times over the last 6 years while vacationing on the Isle of Palms. I can't wait for next year's vacation to go back.
