I'd have to say Merry Heart would have to be my first choice. From the outside, Merry Heart looks like a country estate, leading one to believe a horse drawn carriage would pull up to pillared entrance, at any moment. There are plenty of tables with umbrellas and comfortable chairs offering fresh air for the patients and their guests. Inside the rehab building is a lovely welcome center with an information desk, beauty parlor, gift shop and conference center, where patients can meet with guests on days the weather prevents going outdoors.
The second floor where I was staying during my five week adventure had single and double rooms, a nurses station and a well supplied rehab center, where a staff of about 20, therapists, therapy assistants and aides work from 8AM to 4:30 PM helping the patients regain their strength and balance so they can return home with the knowledge that they are able to do the things their accident or illness had prevented.
The Nurses, assistants, aids and maintenance staff treated me like I was the only patient. When I needed help, a push of the call button had someone there in a minute of two.
My advice is to set up a meeting with the house Dietician to discuss your dietary needs so the kitchen staff will have a clear idea of your food choices and the chances of an unsatisfactory meal will be eliminated.
After several days, I was asked to sit in on a review for about 30 minutes, I made a suggestion. In four days I had 4 different Occupational Therapists and 4 Physical Therapists which required a 30 minute interview so the Therapist could determine my expected results from the rehab. My suggestion was the the PT and OT to one regular and have a back up of one each, to eliminate having to tell my story, over and over, thus have more time for rehab. Within a few days they took my suggestion.
All in all I enjoyed my 5 plus weeks at Merry Heart and I would recommend it to anyone in need of rehab.
