This electric cooperative serves a vast portion of Pasco county, Florida. For the last two years they have been charging customers an extra fee, called a "fuel surcharge fee". Check your monthly statements carefully. There is a customer charge, an energy charge, plus the fuel *& WPAC (fuel surcharge fee). In effect, this extra fee more than doubles your energy bill!!!

When I first noticed the extra charges, I called to ask what they were for. I was informed that it was "temporary" (it's been several years now) and that it kept the company from hiking our rates. Excuse me? Doubling my bill is better than raising rates? I wasn't born yesterday. How can this be legal?

Customer service leaves much to be desired. (I have always been cheerful and kind on the phone regardless of how I feel about the double charges.) Customer service reps are nasty, curt and rude. I have never had an experience that left me smiling. On a side note, I have had service with this company for more than 18 years.

The biggest problem is that they can get away with treating customers however they wish. We cannot change power companies unless we move out of their grid area. I am quite sure that they use this to their wicked advantage.

The only real incentive is the yearly return we receive in the form of a discounted power bill in December.

If given a choice, I would dump this company like a bad date.

Never had any bad experience with them, I'm happy about that. The rate is the lowest of all the Electric Co here where I live. I'm really happy about that. Outages are a minimum in our area, live here 19 years, longest I was ever out 10 Hrs in last hurricane, once that long, the rest were short hrs and few. I was a lineman for a power Co in Pa. and I'm telling you people out there this company is not bad. Here is the good part, Withlacoochee River is Cooperative which means a nonprofit electric utility. Read up on Co-ops, I'm happy as hell with them, SO FAR !

Customer service is extremely rude when you ask questions. The $30 monthly charge is ridiculous when you have no choice in an apartment complex and must have WREC. Would rather have TECO than be charged and extra $30 when i only use $30 of electric per month.

I have had WREC since 1995. The rates are lower than all other companies. I have blinks and some outages but not nearly as many as I had with Tampa electric. The end of the year dividends are fantastic. Operation roundup has helped people I know. You cannot get a job there unless someone retires. They are good to the employees and treat them with respect. Three cheers for Mr. Billy Brown.

30 dollar customer charge for services you do not even use in an apartment complex such as tree trimming and meter readings. Ridiculous. And a late fee for payments submitted BEFORE the due date if they do not clear in time (which is no ones fault but the bank or processing center) Not to mention their fees to pay. WORST company ever- I wish I could have TECO again.

I agree. The $30 per month customer charge is ridiculous. But if anyone thinks the government will step in when they are lining there pockets, you can forget it. The laws of monopoly do not apply to the state of Florida. Another thing that bugs me is if you are a day late with a payment, they send a shutoff threat.

Well I received my new bill today dated 1/21/2016 and I see the customer charge went from $25.00 to $30.00per month. This charge is ridiculous. What is it for? No one seems to know. Just because we have no choice but to use them doesn't mean they should be able to take advantage of their customers. Even if you use no electricity at your place for the month you still have this fee to pay. The government or someone needs to step in and put a stop to this. It is plain stealing from their customers so they can line their pockets. I think every penny of this so called customer charge should be refunded to each customer from the time they started charging it. There's got to be something someone can do to stop this. It's hard enough for people to pay their bills yet alone pay for something that doesn't have any merit.

Worst costmer service. If you are 5 days late they tack on an additional deposit. They have over $700 in deposit money for me. You cant pay online or over the phone without as fee, and they tack on a $40 fee if they shut it off. And there is no other choice for an electric company!

Terrible service. I've experienced 7 outages ranging from 10 minutes to 2 hours over the past 60 days. It doesn't even have to be storming for the power to reset frequently. I don't even bother setting my clocks anymore.

Worst company to ever work with, they are bothered when we the customers call, the board must be needing a new boat so they are collecting deposits on little old ladies. My 73 YO mom who lives in a 900 sq feet home by herself pays about 200 a month, you ask them for a power suvey which FPL does for free here where I live in South Florida to see whats using most of your energy and they say NO we need to get our own electrician. Now they are asking my mom who lives on a fixed income to give a 450 deposit after living in the same house for 15 years if not her light will be turned off, no reasons whatsoever. WTF....

The most HORRIBLE company I have ever had to deal with, they need to be SHUT DOWN!!!! They are greedy people and don't care about anything but money, it's unfair how they know we have to use them or we don't have power!!! They come on your property when ever they feel, and say they are checking the meter, when I know they are supposed to be checking it from the street, I have repeatedly caught them in my yard and had to threaten to call the police, we are new to the area and it scares me!!! They refuse to do payment arrangements, and require extremely high deposits...I have already contacted my attorney in regards to this company, and feel like anyone that is having problems with them need to come forward!! We need other options for electric companies, that's why they continue to be corrupt because they know they can get away with it and lose no business!!! I will not stop untill this is brought public, newspapers, media, whatever it takes to have shut down or get someone new to run it!!!

I have to say that Withlacoochee is the WORST electric company I have ever had to deal with. Not only are their prices outrageous but their policies are also ridiculous! They refuse to make payment plans (you get ONE payment extension per year and that's only for a few days). The workers are rude and don't care at all about their customers, they just want their money. I once had my electric shut off in the middle of summer when I had a 1 yr old and a newborn because I was $30 short on my bill. I begged and pleaded with them to put it on my next bill or to wait for the following week and they said no and promptly shut my electric off. I have never in my life heard of an electric company that won't make payment arrangements! It's horrible and not fair that we have no choice but to use them. The whole co-op thing is just BS, they are money hungry and shouldn't be able to have a monopoly like they do. Something needs to be done. And just so everyone knows, they are not regulated by the Utilities Commission either, they were able to get away with that by claiming the co-op thing. Basically they can do what they want and we can't do anything about it. I would also love to know what this "customer charge" is. If we are all "owners" then why are we being charged extra to be their customer???? And it's not a couple of dollars, it's $18 on my bill every month.

This is a Company that should NOT be in business at all. Customer service sucks very bad its like we bother them or something and its us the Customer that pays them. i agree with the last comment. Everyone down there is rude and heartless. I am a single parent of 8 kids with 5 of them still at home. I was short of money for Dec. bill and asked if there was anything i could do. They told me that it was to late to give a 4 day extension and that if i didn't have the bill paid by 5 the next day then our power would go off. I cried on the phone and told her that i couldn't even have a christmas present for my kids. This was so hard as this was our first christmas that the kids were without there brother, who killed himself 8 months before this. They didn't care a bit! I wish they were nicer and that they didn't charge so much!
