VaxGen is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development, manufacture and commercialization of biologic products for the prevention and treatment of human infectious disease. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the company develops next-generation vaccines against anthrax and smallpox and a vaccine against meningitis B. The company was selected by the United States government to provide approximately 75 million doses of a recombinant anthrax vaccine for civilian biodefense. Established in 1995, VaxGen formed a joint venture in 2002 with South Korean company Celltrion, in order to build a large-scale manufacturing facility in Incheon, South Korea. The company s 20,000-square-foot California facility will be largely responsible for producing the aforementioned 75 million doses of rPA102. VaxGen is headquartered in Brisbane, Calif.
