Sandvik Mining and Construction is a leading supplier of drilling, excavation, crushing and screening machinery, equipment and tools for the mining and construction industries. SMC not only possesses solid knowledge of traditional excavation methods, such as drilling and blasting of hard rock, but it is also a leader in mechanical excavation methods for soft minerals. The company is comprised of six subsidiaries. Sandvik Rock Processing produces crushers, screens and feeders for the mining and construction industries. Driltech Mission manufactures drilling rigs and carbide tools, while Voest-Alpine Bergtechnik specializes in excavation equipment for soft rocks and minerals. Sandvik Tamrock, the largest of SMC s subsidiaries, manufactures rigs for surface and underground drilling, underground loaders and trucks and hydraulic hammers. Finally, Sandvik Smith produces cone drilling bits, and Sandvik Mining and Construction Tools produces cemented carbide-equipped tools for percussive rock drilling. Sandvik Mining and Construction, which employs 9,600 people worldwide, is part of the Sandvik Group.
