Established in 1934, The Georgia Tech Research Institute is a nonprofit research organization for applied research and development. Headquartered in Atlanta, it maintains more than five laboratories. The institute s Aerospace, Transportation and Advanced Systems Laboratory department performs research on aerospace and transportation technologies, power, energy, threat systems, food processing and system sustainability. It also performs applied research in the growth and application of carbon nanotubes, multifunctional materials, electronic and optical systems and biological sensors. The Georgia Tech Research Institute s scientists and engineers conduct defense technology research for the United States Department of Defense. The institute provides technical solutions through its sensing, information technology, test and evaluation and system engineering services. In addition, it operates the Center for Innovative Fuel Cell and Battery Technologies, Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Center and Dental Technology Center.
