I have been a practitioner, within the world of nutrition & dietetics, for roughly the past 15 years. I began my dietetics career, in a hospital setting, as what is known as a clinical dietitian. That role provided me with some great practical experience, and I learned a great deal but I found myself too often left with the feeling that I was â??spinning my wheels at the end of most workdays. I was spending much of my time attempting to interact with a patient who typically was either, lying in a hospital bed & clearly not at their best, or, with one foot out the door, understandably anxious to be discharged, and back home again. These exchanges were fast and fleeting and not really part of my imaginary â??vision board.â?? I wanted to be able to give patients the time and attention they deserved while in the appropriate environment. In 2012 I was presented with just that type of opportunity. For the next 8 years, I worked as one of two dietitians at a well-respected and extremely busy bariatric Center of Excellence. During my years there, I had the privilege of accompanying thousands of patients, as they bravely navigated a path to better health. Over time, I gained a much deeper understanding of the courage it took many of our patients, to walk through our doors, and ask for help, in this, unfortunately, the weight-biased world we live in. The year 2020 was undoubtedly the beginning of a time filled with many changes for most people, including me. The pandemic forced me to re-evaluate my own career goals, health & happiness; ultimately, I made the decision, to start my own private practice. My focus is primarily, but not exclusively, on bariatric clients, at any stage in the surgical process, or beyond. I am also open to those clients who may need support with generalized weight loss, type II diabetes, metabolic syndrome, as well as, food allergies, specifically, gluten intolerance & Celiac disease.
