We called at 9:30 on a Thursday morning looking for an outing for 6 people. We were offered a trip around Sarasota Bay at 11am. We were told that there was only 1 person already booked and the cost was $55 per person. The price sounded a little steep so we asked for a group discount of $45 per person. Mike offered $50 per person and we settled at $47.50.

The launch site (Ted Spurling Park) was convenient, easy to get to, had ample parking and had restrooms which was an unexpected bonus.

They didn't have tandem kayaks (only singles) so we asked that they bring a tow rope in case an elderly member of our party got tired.

Five of us were willing and able to help unload the kayaks but our guide, Kelly, politely declined the help and unloaded them all himself.

All of the equipment was clean and in good condition.

We launched 30 minutes later than scheduled. I think this might have been because Island Style was short 1 kayak and had to negotiate to borrow one from another outfitter.

We were all impressed with Kelly, our guide. He was capable, made everyone feel comfortable and safe, and knowledgable. He had the tow rope with him but although we were willing, he wouldn't let us tow our mother. He towed her for nearly the whole 2 hours!

The route was a good mix of canals (manatees), the bay (a little open water) and the mangrove tunnels - even the experienced naturalists among us were impressed.

Nearly all skills levels can do this trip.

The charges applied to my credit card were $304.95 ($50.83 per person?? not what we agreed upon) and a second charge for $58.85 (19% tax?).

If I had looked at the receipt at the launch site I would have questioned the amount. But it was such a good experience and Kelly was so pleasant that I'm not going to raise a stink about it now. It would have been worth it even at the full $55 rate.

The late departure and the unexpected charge is the only reason I didn't give our experience 5 stars. I would definitely go again - and ask for Kelly!
