We ate at the Greek Taverna last night and it was outstanding. We were greeted by the friendly owner who seated us and talked at length about the food. We ate a variety of the foods, from an appetizer through deserts, and they were all prepared "like my mother made them". It doesn't get better than that. The Greek Taverna is a must to try. We had dinner at the Greek Taverna last night. Tried the Lamb shanks and Greek style potatoes, with a salad, the best I ever had, I would recommend this place for sure. Plan on going again real soon. The owner is very nice, he walks around and talks to people at the tables, what a fun place.

Finally an authentic Greek restaurant! Their food is amazing! We had a little bit of a long wait for our food to be brought to the table but that's ok cause the food was fresh and was so good. Everyone that worked there was so friendly. Even the prices were great. You won't be disappointed.

My husband ,sister and I had a wonderful meal at the Greek Taverna for my birthday last week. We enjoyed so much that we came back to celebrate Valentine's Day.We were pleasantly surprised on both occasions . We experienced the lamb shank that is to die for, the shishkebob that can be prepared with chicken, beef or lamb .We had the latter. and the moussaka as well as the special pork . Always ask what their specials are and don't hesitate to try the appetizers. They are so good and can fill you up that you may have to take home leftovers from your main course. We are so happy that the taverna is close by to our condo that we rent on Siesta Key. Mr.George treats us like family. Tom,Paulineand Ann, Michigan

My husband and I had dinner there last night. Love this place! The food is great and the owner walks around making suggestions and chatting. Great guy. I had the lamb shank which was great! Try the broiled octopus, we have it as an appetizer everytime we go. Really good!

The food and service were excellent. I had the stuffed tomatoes and thought i died and went to heaven i challenge anyone to find better greek food this side of florida. I haven't found any restaurants that compare. The prices are very reasonable too.

If you want to experience a little bit of Greece without leaving Sarasota the Greek Taverna was delightful. The family that owns it really adds character of service and care in their entrees.

Having lived in Greece for nearly 30 years, I'm always looking for a truly authentic Greek restaurant. The Greek Taverna on Beneva is exactly that. I made me feel that I was back in Athens at a neighborhood taverna. While the menu is somewhat limited, the quality of the dishes to choose from and their authenticity makes up for the limited choice. I invited three friends and everyone was pleased with their meal. The friendly owner and the efficient wait staff completed a very nice evening.

I decided to order some spanikopita to go last night. The service was friendly and helpful, however the food was very disappointing. For $10 I feel like I got a little piece of spinach pie that did not seem fresh. The philo dough was soggy and it seemed like it had been sitting for quite some time. I got the same feeling from the baklava. Because it was soggy, it appeared to be less than fresh. I was extremely disappointed and will not be returning.

Hands down the best greek restaurant in Sarasota. You would have to travel over an hour to Tarpon Springs to get greek food as authentic and good as offered at the Greek Taverna which is right in our back yard.

The best greek restaurant is Sarasota hands down. Look out El Greco and Pegasus, there's a new greek restaurant in town. You would have to travel more than an hour to go to Tarpon Springs to get greek food close to the caliber of the one in our own back yard.

The closest thing to mom's Greek home cooking. I've been there several times and have never been dissapointed. The kalamaria or octopus are excellent. Try the spaghetti with meat sauce, delicious. The house dinner salad that comes with only dinners, but you can order on the side, is fresh and filled with different vegies not just lettuce and tomato. The greek deserts are all home made fresh daily. The owners are in the kitchen and serving the customers. Mom in the kitchen and her two daughters are the servers. Go only if you have time to wait a bit and have patience...you will be satisfied when you finish. Prices are reasonable and portions are adequet. Greek beer and wine imported direct from Greece are served and also are reasonably priced. If you were brought up eating Greek food, this place is for you.
