My husband and I understood that a custom s/s pan was going to be installed in our fireplace and sealed in with fire-rated concrete to cover hairline cracks. I gave a 50% deposit for this and some work on the chimney flashing on the roof. I called after 3 weeks and they were waiting for the pan. A week later a tech came out and did the work and wanted to be paid but I was not home. I called the next day, asking for the pictures of the work on the roof. A kid showed up one evening with a flimsy metal pan, asking for the check. When asked what the pan was for, he said he didn't know. Meanwhile I'd made an appointment with the tech to come out and take pictures of the work on the roof. They showed up 1-1/2 hours late and the woman was belligerent when I said I'd thought the pan had been installed already. She blamed my husband and I for misunderstanding the work to be done. I told her I didn't want a thin pan under my fire. She gave me $25 off the $345 repair and took the pan with her.
