The idea to create Red Bull Energy Drink originated in 1984 and more than 3 years of attention was devoted to perfecting the formula and developing the product rollout plan. No one thought that a functional drink previously unknown to the Western world, packaged in a 8.3-ounce can, would stand a chance. That changed in 1987 when Red Bull was launched in Austria. Red Bull is also a sponsor of motorsports as well as X-games and other athletic events and performances. Headquartered Santa Monica, Calif., Red Bull is a privately owned company that employs nearly 100 people.
