Santa Fe Tail : Masters at TAIL-telling

Santa Fe Tails, at the very least, practices deceptive advertising and TAIL-telling. We were charged almost TRIPLE what was verbally quoted at their reception desk and what is listed on their RATES page. What’s worse, our young dog returned home with a bad case of diarrhea - leading us to question what happened while our dog was OFF CAMERA. When I picked up my son's dog (Wed, December 31, 2014) they handed me an empty bag of puppy food and a chewed up bone. I asked if there was a dog bed or blanket and was told they supply the bedding. With that response, I then asked where (specifically) did our dog sleep. They answered, "One of the suites." I continued questioning and mentioned that I had diligently watched the video feeds and never saw our dog in Suite 1 or 2 (the two listed as Channel 7 & 8 in their webcam). In fact, I described the two dogs in Suite 1 and an EMPTY Suite 2 (no dogs, no beds). She then explained he stayed in another suite - one that is not listed and does not have a video camera. She changed topics to make me aware that there was a balance due and asked if I knew how this would be paid – I said it wouldn’t be appropriate to speak for my son who was paying the bill. After leaving, I learned that my son paid the amount that was quoted, but was disputing the remainder - THREE TIMES what was verbally quoted. When the bill was questioned, Santa Fe Tails explained that we were charged at their RESORT rates. The explanation was sounding like a “bait and switch” tactic. As soon as I returned home, I did a Google search for Santa Fe Tails – the Google search resulted in direct links to their website including WEBCAMS, Rates, Daycare, Classes, About Us, and Dog Academy. Next, I did what I expect most people would do: clicked on the RATES link where a full day rate and a 10-day package. The 10-day package was the rate that was verbally quoted and it made sense (inline with going rates of other boarding services in Santa Fe).In an effort to understand how they came to this invoice that is TRIPLE the quoted rate, I continue to read the RATES page. Nowhere does it use the term “boarding.” Nowhere does it direct you to other rates.Recalling the “resort” term, I then see there is a RESORT tab on the website. Ah, ha. Here we go. Although they NEVER use the common term, “boarding,” there is luxury-boarding service that they refer to as their RESORT that includes . . . what? A walk on a trail and 24-hour webcam? Really?Never was I able to see where my young dog slept while at Santa Fe Tails. I’m still confused and very unsure of what happens and where the dogs go when the lights go out!Santa Fe Tails in the business of TELLING TAILS. Apparently, they don’t offer “dog boarding” – just some luxurious, magical, mythical place called the RESORT where you’ll get a bill TRIPLE bill and a dog with diarrhea.(Update, after I finished writing this, noticed that they modified their website TODAY changing RESORT to BOARDING. Too little, too late.)

10 min eval

After my puppy was taking to the large play room for all of 10 min the owner claims he is way to shy to be with other dogs! ALL THIS in 10 min!!! Then he told me how he could fix him at the tune of $60 hr, he told me it was to late for puppy class, that he should have attended a lot younger! Thing is that my vet who has a degree, told me it was really important that he did not be with other dogs till he had his shots! I am not a vet or a trainer but I have had a sick puppy from parvovirus and it is no fun and really scary!! So don't tell me I did not do the right thing for my puppy!!! If you are a good daycare you would never have a dog that has not had all of its shot!!! I left feeling that all he wanted was for me to spend a lot of money !! I then went and signed my puppy up for a class for training! Was he a little scared at first but after 11 min he then began to play and have a good time!! The trainer told me its pretty normal for a 4.5 mth old puppy to be shy! Oh yeah she said she would never take a puppy with out it shots in unless it was private at the puppy's home!! I be really cautious of this place!

One of the best businesses in Santa Fe

I have used Santa Fe Tails for my two dogs (one is only 8 pounds) for almost three years and refered many clients to them. My experiences and those of the friends that I have refered have been exeptional. I would put SF Tails among the best businesses of any kind in Santa Fe. We are lucky to have them and I am glad that their client base does not include the person that left the absurd negative review below. Santa Fe Tails' professional staff always acts in the best interest and safety of the dogs in their care.

Grown Ups Don't Work Here! And the Caregivers Can't Hook Collars!

I don't know the owners, but the staff doesn't seem to know dog poop about dogs or customers. The first time we went for a faciliies tour. The woman didn't seem to know where she to take us or that she should have waited on the people who were there to pick up their dogs first. After the tour, she still left people waiting while we tried to book an evaluation with the owners. She booked the "audition" for Tuesday. Minutes later our phone was ringing saying that the owners didn't evaluate dogs on Tuesday, would we come on Wednesday instead? Wednesday, we were chastised for missing our Tuesday appt, but could leave our dogs for their free evaluation. Hours later, we went to pick them up without having heard from anyone. Seems evaluation is free but the time it takes to do one is not. We were charged for 1/2 day of day care for both dogs. When I was surprised, I was told they could stay longer. The attendant didn't know how to clip a Martingale collar, a prerequiste on sighthounds.

You will love them!

I can't say enough about Joey and Hanna and the rest of the employees at Santa Fe tails. They are always friendly and definitely know what they are doing. With their expertise they have made a huge difference in our dogs' behavior. Plus where else are they going to take your dog on a 15 minute walk in the Railyard district? Thank you Santa Fe Tails!!!

Santa Fe Tails Is Great!

Santa Fe Tails was started by a local wonderful young couple who were trained in positive dog behavior techniques in San Francisco. Each day dozens of dogs attend doggy day care. When you walk in, not one of them barks. They are all much better behaved than at home(!), get along well, and learn important socialization skills. Our dog has attended the dog obedience class which is reasonably priced, well-conducted, and effective. I would recommend both doggy day care and obedience classes for all types of dogs including those with severe problems. Santa Fe Tails can help solve those problems!

Hannah & Joey are the best! Maggie loves it there!

I rescued a mix breed 2 year old female dog from the Santa Fe Shelter last May. She is a wonderful, loving, smart dog! Her issues were that she was not socialized, had a biting problem with strangers and didn't like other dogs in her neighborhood. We were at our wit's end because we love her so much and want to help her be less anxious and afraid. Hannah and Joey are so expert at what they do and their approach to dogs and their owners is kind, straightforward and effective. I really don't know what we would have done, if we hadn't met them. They really know dogs and what makes them tick!
