We had minimal dealings with the legal system prior to our granddaughter and foster care. We found out we had no legal status in the courts and no knowledge of the process. DCFS's job is to protect the rights and confidentiality of the parents. We didn’t understand the process, know our rights, or how to help our granddaughter. We were scared.
