Venktesh Ramnath, MD, is a board-certified pulmonologist who treats patients with lung disease primarily in intensive care unit and hospital settings. He serves as medical director of critical care telemedicine outreach, using digital technology to evaluate, diagnose and treat ICU patients who are located far from a UC San Diego Health facility. His research interests include tele-ICU systems, bioethical issues in the ICU, patient and family empowerment in the ICU, and digital health applications for inpatient and ICU care. Dr. Ramnath completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Womens Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Harvard Medical School). He completed a residency in internal medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Weill Cornell Medicine), where he was chief resident. He earned his medical degree from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn. Dr. Ramnath is board certified in critical care medicine, pulmonary disease and internal medicine.He is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the American Telemedicine Association. In his spare time, Dr. Ramnath enjoys playing classical violin and competitive tennis, as well as international travel. He speaks fluent in Spanish and Sankethi (Indian), and is proficient in French.
