Dr. Hentzen, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery, specializes in hand and microvascular surgery. His clinical interests include the treatment of post-traumatic, degenerative and developmental conditions of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, including fracture care, arthroscopy, joint replacement and microsurgical techniques.Dr. Hentzen completed his fellowship in orthopedic trauma surgery at Charit University Hospital in Berlin, Germany, and his fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Curtis National Hand Center at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at UC San Diego. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and his doctoral degree in biomedical engineering from Rice University.Dr. Hentzen has published numerous articles in orthopedic and bioengineering journals and has presented his work at national meetings. His current research focuses on skeletal muscle injury and repair, tendon transfer and advanced techniques in hand fracture fixation and rehabilitation.Dr. Hentzen has an ongoing involvement in medical mission work that was fostered by his orthopedic training abroad and previous medical experience working in underdeveloped countries in Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean.
