City Dog

Dog lover Gary Laliberte recalls what it was like when he first spotted the need for a pet supply store in Downtown four years ago. There wasn’t a store for the “average joe” dog owner. Fast forward some years later and he not only has a great store full of doggie goodies and toys, he’s also added a self serve bathing area. Designed and constructed by Gary, himself, this four tub self serve station allows you to bring your dog in for a wash, using the best shampoos. There are many levels and scents to choose from and a drying station. Other in house services are pet grooming, hair cuts, and even peticures! If that isn’t enough, City Dog hosts a Wednesday night Happy Hour for you and your pet at the San Diego Wine & Culinary Institute. There, Gary offers a free raffle for a cool gift bag filled with treats and other goodies. It’s a great way to enjoy a doggy social hour with happy hour wine prices Behind the counter at City Dog is a cool architectural divider with large paw imprints, allowing you to peek into the bathing stations. Along the walls are dog paintings and photos, some for sale. Pretty impressive considering what the place looked like when they first started. When you drop by, you will even meet Bib the Labrador mix and honorary store manager. All in all, City Dog is a fun place for pups and people. It smells great, the employees are happy, the customers are grateful and it’s a lot of fun.

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE!

This is about the grooming services....one word...HORRIBLE!

I took my 8 month Yorkie in for a "Trim" and got a cat in return. I spoke to the groomer prior to her appointment and specified what I wanted so I thought she should be ok, right? Wrong. When I saw my poor Yorkie, I thought wait a minute???!!!! Where is my dog? I don't know what the groomer was attempting to do but all I thought was did she mess up while trimming her hair & had to shave her instead? Even worse I actually paid $45 for this...I could have shaved her @ home. The groomer obviously did not know what she was doing. My poor puppy doesn't even look like a Yorkie anymore or even a dog for that matter...she looks like a cat or lion cub....worse of all, I don't like cats (sorry cat lovers). I think she needs more training & needs to learn how to groom yorkies. Hey groomer...have you ever heard of a puppy cut? Needless to say, I will never take my puppy here again. This place gets a one star b/c I can't give it a zero! I really, really regret bringing her here. :-( A million apologies to my puppy, Hershey. I can't wait for her hair to grow back.
