I have personally adopted a few children from this San Bernardino Shelter, and I found the kennel help to me friendly and courteous and caring about the animals. Knowing that this city recently filed BK, and had severe cut backs, I was not sure how I was going to like this shelter, but my experience was wonderful and I love my newly adopted little four legged children. A special "thank you" to Mike for his patience in assistance. I highly recommend them.

There was a feral female cat in our neighborhood who decided to have kittens in my yard so I bottle fed the kittens until until she came and took them to a spot in my yard that she was comfortable with. I fed her and later the kittens then when the kittens were old enough I purchased a special cage and one by one I took them to be neutered, shots given and also tamed the kittens in my house so they would be adoptable. I had read about feral cats and knew I you should neuter them and then return them to the neighborhood so there will not be enough food to support other wild cats who can multiply. I was actually able to tame her enough that she would let me pet her. Well, about a week ago she disappeared. It had been raining and raining so I thought she might be hiding out but she has not returned. I called the animal shelter but they only have a message that said I would have to come to the shelter to see if my cat was there or go to their website where I could view pictures of the animals at their shelter. I spent a couple hours checking the listings they had for animal shelters where you entered your location, the type of cat, male or female, etc. and then it showed pictures and told what animal shelter the pet was at. I went through over 2000 listings (25 at a time). However, none of the listings mentioned the San Bernardino Animal Shelter so they didn't even have their own animals on it. So today I called my city's animal control which also had a message that they contracted with the City of San Bernardino Animal Control Shelter (which I already knew) but they did list a different web site that got me to the correct place. I clicked on the "Pet Finder" which was where they were supposed to have their animal pictures, but it only had a message about "Barrack Obama's Stimulus Checks" and that's it. I thought I made a mistake and tried again. I also tried other ways to find the Pet Finder and/or pictures without success. By the time I had finally finished finding the correct web site, it was too late to get to the animal shelter. So tomorrow I will take off work to see if they have my cat, but it may be too late since I also found out they only keep animals for four days and then destroy them. This makes me really upset and it's not just the money or the considerable amount of my time I spent. I also became attached to her and she was valuable to our neighborhood. She had eliminated the neighbors' and gophers and also was last seen with a mouse or rat hanging out of her mouth. But more importantly, this poor animal may have been needlessly killed. I wasted two important days. If an organization (especially when time is extremely important) says they are going to show pictures of their animals so citizens can see if they have their pet they should do so or they should discontinue their web page or leave a message on the web page and/or the answering machine to explain they no longer provide this service. I don't think that is too much to ask so I do not recommend this web page until it is changed. I also believe two days is not enough because most of us wait a couple days for them to come home and/or ask the neighbors if they have seen our pet.
