Although my Mother always told me that if you can't say something good, say nothing at all...I must ignore her wisdom this time. Today I needed fills (or a new set) for my nails. I decided to try a new salon that opened close to my house. I walked in (I was the only customer there) and met Tommy, my nail tech. I had long red nails but took my white frosted polish (with a few sparkles) because I wanted them changed to go with a white and black leather outfit I will wear next week. When I sat down, I asked him if he watched "The Voice" and knew who Gwen Stefani was? He nodded yes and I told him I liked her nails...long and shaped like the ones he was now removing from my hands. He put the new set on and without asking and before I could object, he immediately cut the first one...waaaay too short for me. I sat and watched him cut the second one...waaay too short...and then I was just stupid, I guess, not to have him stop and start over with a new set. I could tell as we went along that my nails were looking really "stubby" so I asked him to round the corners a little more. He painted a clear polish on them and indicated that he was finished. I asked him if he wasn't going to paint them with the white polish I had sitting there and he told me no, that they looked better plain. I told him that I don't like "plain", I like "fancy" so he painted my nails. I left there with my hands and nails looking short and "stubby" instead of long and elegant. I guess that's the way Tommy likes them. It is NOT the way I like them. I suggest that nail techs ask their customer how they want their nails to look and not assume that everyone wants short, stubby, "natural" looking nails. I will not go back to that salon again. Tomorrow I will probably go to my regular nail salon across the street and have them start all over. I wasted $41 today because I wanted to try a new salon in the neighborhood.
