Established in 1959, the Oregon State Marine Board is Oregon's recreational boating agency. The agency returns marine fuel tax and title and registration fees to boaters in the forms of boating safety educational programs, marine law enforcement and boating facilities. The Oregon State Marine Board titles and registers more than 195,000 recreational vessels. It also registers outfitters and guides and licenses ocean charter boats. The Oregon State Marine Board establishes statewide boating regulations and contracts with county sheriffs and the Oregon State Police department to enforce marine laws. The agency provides technical training to marine patrol officers. It also offers grants and engineering services to cities, counties, and port parks and districts to enhance and maintain accessible boating facilities and protect water quality. The Oregon State Marine Board is located in Salem, Ore.
