River Oak Center for Children is a nonprofit organization that provides mental health and social services to low-income, emotionally and behaviorally challenged children and youth (birth to 21) and their families in the Greater Sacramento area. River Oak offers a comprehensive array of traditional and innovative services through twelve programs at three program sites. Our programs are organized in three service groups - Early Intervention and Prevention, Intensive In-Home Services, and Outpatient Mental Health - which are all enhanced by Health and Medical Services, Psychology, Psychiatry, Family and Youth Advocacy, and Training. We are the only Sacramento-area nonprofit operating as many as five evidence-based practices in the field, proven by research to produce measurable positive outcomes in the lives of those served. Leading the organization as its president and chief executive officer since 1985 is Dr. Mary Hargrave, a licensed clinical psychologist with a specialization in child psychology. Under her direction, close to 2,000 children and their families are served annually by River Oak professional staff members.
