So this morning I went to the Rockwall Goodyear Auto Service Center and spoke with Sam about a problem with one of the tires on my sons car. The tires had less than 20k miles on them with full road hazard warranty bought directly through Goodyear Auto Service Center at the cost of just under $520.00! We discussed with Sam that there seems to be a thumping noise while driving down the road, seemed to me as though there was a broken belt, so I advised. After a while we walked outside and noticed the car was on the lift and three people were talking about the tire. We spoke with one of the shop employees and he told us that his boss said, "it looks like this tire has been locked up". We explained to them that the tires have never been locked up and if they have been why wouldn't it have been also on another tire and not just this one and why is it in four spots and none of the other tires have it? Then Sam came out to the shop and told us this tire has been locked up and is not covered under warranty. Now I have been an ASE certified mechanic for 13 years as I explained to Sam as he was talking down to me like I was some kind of idiot, and I explained to him my qualifications and further more explained to him that this car has never been abused never mind having one tire locked up in THREE or FOUR different spots. I also pointed out to Sam that none of the other tires appeared to be driven on aggressively what so ever and he said,"I don't care". As shocked as we were to hear his response I asked, "so your not going to cover this at all under any warranty what-so-ever?" He replied, " I will call Goodyear and explain to them what I see and see what they say." After several minutes of him being on the phone, I tried listening to as much conversation as I could and got the gist of his explanation that there were flat spots on the tire from excessive braking. He then wrote up an estimate of $100.59 to replace the tire, trying to convince me that he was giving us a half price deal of the tire. I then explained to him, "that's not a deal and for that price I will go somewhere else and buy new tires since you obviously think this is due to some sort of abuse." Just then another man dressed in street clothes acting like he worked there said that he has been in the tire business for 30 years and knows what he's looking at as Sam walked away. When I disregarded what this other person was trying to explain Sam then returned and I asked him what Goodyear's number was so I can explain to them exactly what was going on. He gave me the number and slammed my receipt on the counter and told me "GOOD LUCK!" I then asked Sam "who did you talk to?" he said, "I don't remember if it was a girl or a guy never mind there name" I said, "is there a claim number?" Sam reluctantly gave me a claim number and we left. When they brought the car around I asked if they fixed the leak in the tire and the mechanic said yes and I then asked if they put the wheel lock key back in the glove box. He said "Oh good thing you asked let me get it", and he brought us out the wheel lock key. As we sat out in the parking lot and spoke with Kathy form Goodyear and she explained that we were welcome to get a second opinion. She directed us to their competitor directly across the street and gave us the name of the manager she had just spoke to and told us to go talk to him. Five minutes later we were speaking to the manager of Goodyear Auto Service Center's competitor. The manager came out looked at the tire with us, at that time is when we noticed that Goodyear Auto Service Center had removed all FOUR valve stem caps!!! The manager saw at least three spots then looked at all three other tires and said, "THATS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE TIRE!!!". He then offered to exchange the tire out at ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE. He also offered to give us a full NON PRO-RATED road hazard warranty for ALL FOUR TIRES at LESS THAN THE COST OF A NEW TIRE
