I recently had my child's birthday party in this location, we got treated horrible by all of the employees and even the owner. The owner was just allowing anybody in the skating rink , and trying to charge me for , when I went to talk to her about this situation she the proceeded to snatch the remaining tickets from my hand and throw them in the trash. When my child had to use the bathroom the owner got extremely upset when we let her know that she had run out of toilet paper and refused to give us any and didn't ever put anymore in the bathroom. She then proceeded to walk around to the other tables to bad mouth us simply off of the fact that we were Hispanic. The young lady giving out the skates would refuse to exchange any skates, no matter the circumstances some of the kids had to skate with extremely small or extremely large skates. The group of young ladies working at the concessions would have us standing there, ignoring us just to continue their conversation and when they did pay attention to us they had the worst attitude and would slam things in the counter and walk away.

I have been going to Kates since January 2013 and WOW what a tremendous difference the owners have made in this skating rink. The place has been repainted with new neon paint murals on all the walls, new HOT carpet on the floors with kangaroos, bathrooms have been updated and maintained, novelty shop; OMG could not keep my kid out of there from wanting to spend money. They have really cool skates displayed for sale. The employees were extremely nice and the DJ played games a few times during the session and gave away prizes too. The party room had been remodeled. It was full of Saturday birthday parties and everyone appeared to be having a good time. The owner was even out introducing herself and asking if there was anything the birthday parties needed they did not have.



Unfortunately my entire family was there the night the fellow mentioned in a comment here states he was badly profiled should be ashamed of himself, because it did not happen that way.

i have been going to kates skating rink in rock hill for 35 yrs...recently i just started going back skating with my 14 yr old soon and my 11 yr old son..my brother has also returned with his 2 daughters..i have invested over 2000.00 in inline speedskates for my kids and myself..as well as my brother and his daughters.i have known donnie allen the manager for 35 yrs..well on sat.jan.5th 2013 myself and my 2 sons/my brother with his 2 daughters and they had one friend each.my good friend -=his wife=and there son were enjoying a night of skating.the session is over at 11:00pm...now granted my son that is 14 is pretty good and fast aswell as my brother and myself..now take into consideration that from time to time the kids go fast.faster then they should ,now my brother and i havent skated in over 20 yrs....im a very responsible 42 yr old parent that helps kids up when they fall down...i correct my son and his friends to slow down...but that night around 1029 pm the rink was clearing out and i was wearing a new pair of inline speedskates that was the second time i have ever been on them..so around 10:20 that evening my son-the managers son-and myself were going a couple of fast laps..granted that we waited until they werent many people there on the floor...im a 42 yr old man that wasnt called down for speed skating all night ....but at 1020 announced over the intercom was the assistant manager d.j announcing that my son and myself to remove our skates and exit the building...i have known dj the assistant for a short time..i thought he was joking ..i am 42 yrs old you know...he proceeds to call me to the edge of the floor where a 3 ft wall divides us....he was in shoes in the concession area...i was still on the rink floor with skates...he calls me over and i say yes??? he tells me to take my skates off and leave,,i said are you kidding??? now take in mind that there are children including my niece and her friend sitting in the concession right beside dj when he was talking to me ...i said" quote " dj you havent called me for going too fast all night....why dont you sit us down for 15 minutes like we used to when we were kids..which i find immature.....then he says !!!! take your m.f. skates off and leave..then i say----you dont talk to me like that..the next thing i know he hit-pushes me backwards on the skating rink floor where i could have tripped someone ...i didnt thank god...and i then jumped over the wall and struck him for putting his hands on me infront of kids...and using profanity infront of kids..yes i was wrong to strike him..he was wrong for striking me first and cursing me ....if your going to manage kids and adults-----grow up!!! if you think cursing someone or treating them disrespectful is the answer then my friend you ARE NOT MANAGEMENT MATERIAL!. the manager of the building in columbia was called and they issued no trespassing against me for one yr . i cant show my son tips and enjoy family time...and this man named dj is still employed there!!! its also been brought to my attention that he shoved and cursed and 16 yr old employee there at the rink....the 16 yr old also struck dj but nothing was done..should this person be allowed to supervise children ???and why should i be issued trespassing when i had plenty of witnesses that seen him curse me and put his hands on me ...and remember im on skates this entire time while he is in shoes....what if i would have just fallen and sued this skating rink ??? ....im so furious that the owner-or leasing manager has not contacted me to get my side and my witness's side of the story.... i should have every right to be there with my children and enjoying family skating like all other families....where is justice ????????????? i would love for the actual person to get in touch with me and atleast be concerned with both sides of the incident.--------good luck -joey pittman

Sad to say this is the only skating rink in rockhill. My daughter loves to skate. I don't want to touch the carpet, wear the skates, eat the food, or use the bathrooms. I would think that they make enough money to update!

The employees are rude, the skates are HORRIBLE, broken strings, wheels that are jammed, the people that go to the place are rude also. The prices are too high. Me and my girlfriends went there to have a "girls night", paid 8 dollars a piece, we were there for NOT EVEN 20 minutes total and gave back our skates and left, due to the rude employees, the skates that didnt work properly, and the people skating that pushed and shoved, then they told us that even though we were only there for maybe 20 minutes...we could not have our money back since we did skate around the rink TWICE. I will never go there again, AND I was planning to have a birthday party there in August....I WILL NOT BE DOING THAT...I will tell everyone I know that this is a place to stay away from. Drive to Charlotte. It is well worth the extra driving time to get away from this horrible place.
