Had them come out to give an estimate to remove two shrubs. As a former landscapper, too old to want to do it myself, I estimated 300 total. These were not huge lilac trees but bushes.
They gave me an estimate far exceeding that amount then he told me, that did not include getting rid of the roots. Those would still be there and it would costs more to remove them.
Ya I passed. Way out of line for the work.

I hired Maier Tree & Lawn to spray and KILL the buckthorn in my backyard after getting a reference from my contractor. Jay Maier said he and his worker sprayed all the buckthorn when no one was home and when I looked to check that same evening, only a few plants appeared sprayed out of the many thousands that were there. When I say a few, I mean maybe a dozen, and many of the large plants appeared untouched. When I called him back and questioned him, he assured me he personally made sure everything was sprayed and guaranteed his work so I paid him the agreed upon $500 by mailing him a check the following day that Fall. The following Spring, all except a few plants came back alive (large and small) and well and when I tried to get in touch he would not return my calls and sent some flunkie to come out a spray again and only stayed a few minutes. He took off shortly after I turned my back. Don't expect to get what you pay for or what is promised when you hire Maier forest and lawn!
