Dr. Miller earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by an internship in general surgery and residency in orthopaedic surgery at University Health Center Hospitals there. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Columbus, Georgias Hughston Clinic.As the Sports Medicine Section Chief at Carilion Clinics Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences, Dr. Miller specializes in both operative and non-operative sports medicine, including arthroscopy and knee and shoulder reconstruction. He is associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, assistant professor of medical specialties orthopaedics at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and clinical associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.Dr. Miller is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Virginia Orthopaedic Society, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Southern Orthopaedic Association and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. He has also served on the U.S. Olympic Committee Sports Medicine team (Lake Placid); as team physician for the U.S.A. Triathlon National Team at their World Championships and Goodwill Games and medical director for 15 years; and participated on the Ironman Triathlon World Championship event medical team since 1990. In 2019, Dr. Miller received the Virginia Career Award on behalf of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society for the impact and contributions he's made in orthopaedics for the Commonweatlh of Virginia.
