The Los Verdes Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., offers what may be the best ocean views in the state of California. Considered by many to be one of the best golf values anywhere, this picturesque, 18-hole, par-71, 6,617-yard course is situated on rolling hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. Designed by golf course architect William F. Bell, Los Verdes Golf Course has a course rating of 71.7 and a slope of 122. A public course, it is near Torrance, Calif. The course is one of approximately 170 courses managed by American Golf Corporation. American Golf manages private, resort and daily fee courses throughout the United States.

This is LA's "average joe" Pebble Beach. Conditions are usually average at best, but the layout and views make up for it. Expect to wait here unless you're willing to go out and play in the pre-dawn hours. The course is good for a "play once every couple of years".

Golf is not a game for sissies

Recently, I was visiting relatives and apparently I couldn't play on thier course because I was a beginner (and they were going to an expert course). In order to avoid this happening for my next trip, I took some lessons.

What a delight. Thank you Los Verdes and Gary Bonnet. I'm not only good enough now to be included, they are finding it hard to get a lower score than me. (Yeah!!). Some of the visual and mental lessons I've already been inspired to pass on.

Thank you Los Verdes and I do recommend lessons (you can only learn so much from a book, I tried!),
