My experience was awful. I saw Dr. Mersereau and she was very good, but the billing part was an absolute nightmare. I was told before the appointment that I had no fertility insurance coverage, therefore when I went in for my appointment, I paid in full the money that they asked me for. Seven months later, I received a phone call from a very unpleasant woman named Melanie Walker telling me that a refund check had been returned to them in the mail. I have lived at the same address for years, so I'm not sure how it got returned to them, but when I asked her to explain why I was getting a refund when there was no insurance involved, she was hateful to me. She told me it wasn't her job to explain that, she was just the messenger. After that I was referred to Ashley Forest in billing and she was far worse that Melonie Walker. She flat out refused to explain or answer any questions about the refund. Ultimately, after being persistent and repeatedly contacting the office manager, Jim LaJolie, UNC Fertility issued a full refund 9 months after the appointment. As it turns out, they got paid by me and my insurance company. They billed me over a hundred dollars more than they billed my insurance company and they were absolutely unable to explain why the rate was different for the same appointment. There was also some confusion with an ultrasound. They forgot to submit the bill for the ultrasound to the insurance company - so they took the extra money that they collected from me to cover it, but then ended up deciding to refund the money after I kept asked questions. Overall, I would strongly recommend staying away from this practice, I question how ethical they are.

An useless appointment was scheduled at the wrong time in my wife's cycle but we were still billed for it. Test results took weeks after we were called and told they were ready to be shared with us. We were billed nearly twice the cost for our services (over $2,500 more than standard). I didn't realize this until 14 months later. When I called them, they dodged my calls for nearly a month. Finally they took my call and told me they realized their error and refunded me the money. What happens to all of those who didn't question this? I do believe the doctors are capable and sincere, but overall, this office should be avoided.

Dr. Fritz and his staff are worlds different than any other RE office in the area. They are so knowledgeable and caring, and they actually take the time to know your individual needs and situation. The ATTAIN program, and the expertise of the physicians and staff, have helped our dreams come true. We can't recommend them highly enough!!!

At the outset, let me say that...

At the outset, let me say that I thought that Dr. Fritz and the nursing staff were all great. I also thought that all of the doctors performing my ultrasounds were very nice as well. So, it's truly sad that it is necessary for me to submit this review about UNC Fertility. I froze my eggs on 01/23 and as of today (03/31) UNC Fertility has not submitted all of my claims to insurance. I was told initially by Anne Marie Greeson in the billing office that insurance would not cover any of the charges, but that proved to be untrue. Her response to this was "insurance can be frustrating" instead of "I'm sorry I was incorrect let me get all of those claims filed." After getting nowhere with Ms. Greeson to file my claims to insurance, I called Attain Fertility (the umbrella organization) to complain and get resolution. They suggested I call Jim Lajoie the UNC Fertility business manager. Jim was very nice and apologetic, but he did not fix the problem. He got UNC Central Billing involved. I have been speaking to someone name Dion (sp?) in UNC Central Billing. She initally came across like she was going to fix the issue and get the claims filed, but as of today she told me that she would have to "look into how to file the claim for anesthesia". It is noted that I have been calling and emailing all of these people for over two months now on a weekly if not bi-weekly or in some cases daily basis. I have been speaking with this Dion woman for weeks. In addition, I have been asking for a statement of the services so that I can send them to insurance and I have not recieved a statement of services rendered other than what looks to be an accounting ledger. I find the level of incompetence to be absolutely mind-blowing. I think we all know that had I not pre-paid for all of these services on 12/03 that the insurance would have been billed instantly. However, they have no motivation to settle my account because they already have their money. I am looking to be refunded the difference between what I pre-paid and the services that were rendered ($868.00 based on my records due to needing fewer ultrasounds, bloodwork and anesthesia) in addition to all of the money that insurance decides to pay on my claims which at this point is significant. So, we are talking 1K if not 2K dollars that they owe me. However, from the lack of attention on the part of UNC Fertility billing you would think it was nothing. I took a loan out on my retirement to freeze my eggs, so this money is very important to me. So, long story short, only use UNC Fertility if money is not an issue for you and you have lots of free time to make sure your claims are submitted to insurance. Also, if they tell you insurance covers nothing, don't believe them. Even if insurance doesn't cover the retrieval procedure they will cover blood work and possibly the ultrasounds. Pursuing this refund and the filing of insurance claims has been like a second job for me and I am a very busy person. I have only taken the time to submit this review to put others on alert.
