Where to go when you need interesting, rare, often unusual, and fascinating plants. Plant Delights is in a league of its own and the owner is the horticultural industry equivalent of a rock star, actively seeking plants in far-flung places to bring home and propagate not to mention obtaining unique varieties from some of the top breeders in the business. A visit to the spectacular gardens is a must if you enjoy gardens, though they are only open to the public select weekends of the year. The mail order dept is always open though!

As for the pearl-clutching, hand-wringers whining about the catalog cover featuring that monster Sandusky, you folks need to get an understanding of what satire is. It is not just "making a joke", in this case, of child abuse. The whole point of satire is savage the thing you loathe by making it ridiculous. It may have been poor judgement to put it on the cover but it was not "making light of child abuse".

Anyone claiming that the plants are overpriced, doesn't have an inkling of the overhead involved in running a propagation nursery. The plants are expensive compared to other nurseries and I couldn't afford to buy all my plants there but their prices are fair and the selection can't be had elsewhere, at least not in this region of the country.

Don't do business w/ these people. They think it's funny to satirize racism and child abuse on their new catalog and on their website. They think they're funny and when I called to express my concern, they were rude and acted arrogantly. People like this don't deserve anyone's business. I then sent an email to their customer service rep. and got a flippant reply back. They don't have the first idea of good customer service, and I'm betting if you buy something and there's a problem, they won't do anything to solve it. Take your business elsewhere.

NEVER shop here. They don't stand by their products and are over priced. I tried to fairly resolve an issue and they laughed at me and refused to address my issue. Take your business elsewhere!

I regard Tony Avent as one of the foremost horticultural authorities in NC and indeed in the nation. Great source of information. Great selection of plants! Since I too am in the business of plants, I can fully appreciate all that he does to further our knowledge of plants, their special growing conditions, climate affects and everything else that goes into the perpetual challenge we call gardening.

Although I don't live in the area serviced by this business, those who do live near Plant Delights Nursery need to be aware that the owners support and promote advertising that makes light of child abuse. Unworthy of support as a local business, in my opinion.

Plant Delights will never get my business. They have chosen to satirize child abuse. Child abuse is never a joke no matter how it is presented. In their ad, which is on the front of their catalog, is also being printed on T-shirts. There is also a picture of Obama in a Jim Crow suit. I wonder what the NAACP would say to that? Well, in addition to child abuse reporting agencies in Raleigh and the Eastern North Carolina Better Business Bureau, I think I'll write to the Reverend Al.

They have used terrible judgment in making fun of victims of child abuse. The depictions on their cover of their spring catalog are not funny--in fact they are disgusting. They might be great with plants, but horrible with judgments--to say nothing of the fact they are using a logo that has copyright protection. Did they get permission from PSU to do that?

I can not believe Plant Delights Nursery has chosen to depict child abuse for their 2012 spring catalog. What in the world does that have to do with plants?? Why in the world would I want to purchase any items from a company with such poor judgement. I'm making sure to pass this on to all my horticulture friends so they avoid this company at all costs. There are too many reputable companies out there to do business with that this is one we can surely skip. :(

I am truly saddened by this companies choice of advertising. They have chosen to have a cartoon of a man/lion chasing scared boys on their Spring 2012 Catalog. They also have this same image for sale on their tee shirts. I personally will not do business with this company.

Your lack of taste and sensitivity towards the allegations involving Jerry Sandusky and Penn State is clearly appalling and uncalled for. I would never patronize a business that would think this is a good idea to promote themselves -- I don't care how nice your plants are. They say, "Please be sensitive our owner just lost his wife to cancer after a 4 year battle". Well, I am sensitive to his plight and offer my sincerest condolences, however Mrs. Paterno lost her husband to cancer recently too. Where is your sensitivity to her? Please shop around and spend your money elsewhere.

Really? The image of a reported pedophile chasing boys as they run in fear --used as part of an ad-- is probably the most reprehensible thing a nursery could do, short of selling poisonous plants to a daycare center. Come on... do you really want to do business with a company whose staff mocks child abuse? I hear there are some other good nurseries in the Raleigh area.

This business has used the poor judgement of depicting child abuse and racism on the front cover of their spring 2012 catelog. When asking the company for clarification, they brush it off as political satire. There is nothing funny about racism or child abuse. Shame on them for trying to make a dollar at another's expense.
